Job Title: Information Technology Assistants

Accountabilities:
Under the direct supervision of the IT Officer and overall supervision of the Head of the ICT Unit, the incumbents will perform the following duties:-

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
 Maintain inventory of material and/or database of information such as computer related equipment, communications equipment, website content, training material, etc.
 Maintain logs or archives of information such as computer related logs, trouble tickets, directories, website publications, registries, data warehouses, reports, etc;
 Assist in the deployment/dissemination of standard material, such as computer hardware and/or software, applications, programmes, directories, telephony, web content, publications database content, training materials, etc;
 Assist in the maintenance of systems and equipment by carrying out routine tasks such as backing up data, monitoring network and systems, servers and peripherals, running systems diagnostics, patch management and system optimisation, removing viruses and bad data, etc;
 Administer user access to systems and databases, monitor system and application usage;
 Assist in resolution of problems by monitoring inboxes and responding to queries, identifying and forwarding issues to the appropriate person;
 Assist in training and support of users of technology and systems, such as audio/videoconferences, meetings, databases, registries, networks, etc;
 Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:
 Completion of secondary school education supplemented by training/qualification in information technology, telecommunications, information management
 At least three years of progressively responsible job related technical experience in telecommunications, electronics, radio/satellite operations or expertise in operations of commercial telecommunications systems.
 Substantive knowledge and practical experience with the following technologies - Satellite communications, Data communication services over WAN and LAN infrastructures; Networked multi-layer LAN and WAN switches, routers, bridges; VoIP and CISCO unified communication, Switches, routers and bridges. TCP/IP networking; IP Telephone Technology: Medium to large capacity PABX systems; group switches, digitally enhanced cordless telephones, fibre optic systems, strong background in Ericsson range of PABXes including telephone management and billing systems; Radio Communications Technology: .
 Ability to plan and organise work. Resourcefulness, high sense of initiative, maturity of judgment and tact and ability to work effectively with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
 Strong attention to detail and an ability to perform detailed work and to handle large volume of efficiently under time constraints, independently and with a minimum of supervision.
 Sound judgement, ability to extract, interpret, analyse and format data and to resolve operational problems.
 Excellent written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
