PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
: This program is collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention whose remit is to conduct research in Malaria, HIV and other diseases. It is in this mandate that the program has a vacancy in the International Emerging Infections Program.



POSITION: COMMUNITY INTERVIEWER – (6 Positions) MR4LOCATION : Asembo area in Rarieda District


REPORTS TO:: Field Supervisor



ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:O-Level secondary education with a minimum grade of a C-.
Must be willing to reside in Asembo/Rarieda district.
Good English and Dholuo, both spoken and written.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The community interviewers will report directly to their team leader and will be responsible for collecting timely and accurate morbidity surveillance data in his or her assigned households.

Skill, knowledge and Abilities
-
Collect accurate and complete surveillance data using assigned tools.

Must be able to communicate effectively with members of the community.

Ability to work using Personal Digital Assistance (PDAs). If not conversant with PDA use, then they should be ready to learn on the usage of the gadgets.

Must be able to devote additional time for the study including working over national and public holidays.

Specific Tasks and Responsibilities.
The community interviewers’ responsibilities shall include and not be limited to the following:
1. Conduct routine household morbidity interviews according to drawn up work plans
2. Complete study forms accurately and completely
3. Communicate with the field supervisor and team leaders on field issues.
4. Ensure that one has requisite supplies in time.
5. Attend study field meetings and report on progress of work.
6. Be courteous, respectful, proactive, conscientious, punctual, honest and hardworking.
7. Complete any other duties assigned or delegated by the management.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Contract for (1) year, renewable as per KEMRI scheme of service. Probation period for the first 3 months. Salary negotiable within the appropriate grade depending on education, experience and demonstrate competency.
