Conflict and Social Auditing Capacity Building Officer

Diocese of Lodwar in pursuit of its vision ‘ A community of God’s People united by the Holy Spirit, dedicationg our lives to Christian Service to fight poverty and disadvantage’ while working in partnership with DFID Trocaire ASAL Resilience Programme in Loima(ARP – Loima) is seeking to recruit qualified persons to fill the following positions.

The ARP – Loima Project is a DFID Trocaire funded project for three – year intervention focussing on building livelihoods’ resilience among pastoralist and agro-pastoralist communities in Karemunyang and Turkwell in Turkwkell Division and Lokiriama, Lorengippi and Namoruputh in Loima Division (Loima District).

Background to the Role
In recognition of the fact that ongoing human conflict restricts access to pasture as well leading to the loss and destruction of livestock assets, the project includes a capacity building component around conflict resolution and transformation. In addition, the new county governance structure presents a new context for political administration and the project will extend previous work on social auditing to strengthen the capacity at community level for civil society to articulate its concerns and demand accountability in the management of public resources.

Description of Position
Lead the conflict and social auditing component of the project. This will include the coordination and delivery of capacity building at community level in conflict resolution mechanisms and social auditing. The Officer will be responsible for liaison and collaboration with other organisations active in this field within Turkana, including a partner organisation which delivers training.

Location: Lodwar with travel throughout Turkana county

Duties & Responsibilities:
 Manage the delivery of activities intended to realise output 4 of the project logic model to the highest possible standards.
 Contribute technical expertise to the development of training programmes on conflict resolution and social auditing as they relate to threats to livelihoods resilience, including: land allocation decisions, social and value for money analysis techniques, identification of county priorities, accountability, responsiveness of county governments.
 Quality assure the implementation of conflict resolution and social auditing models at community level.
 Contribute technical expertise and knowledge of the project work

Qualifications, Attributes and Other Requirements Specific to the Role
 Bachelor of Arts in Community Development, Anthropology or Socialogy or its equivalent
 Skilled in MS Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
 Ability to manage heavy workloads, to multi-task and to meet deadlines
 Ability to work both independently and in a team.
 Fluent written and spoken English, Kiswahili and knowledge of Ng’aturkana is an added advantage.
 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
 Dynamic and willing to take initiative
