Engineer (Operations)

Reporting to the Depot Manager 
Overall Job Purpose 
To supervise and coordinate the deployment and administration of operations staff at the depot for efficient operation of the pipeline and liaises with the Maintenance Sections on timely correction and repair of equipment ensuring availability at all times.
 Job Profile 
  • Ensure safe and efficient receipts of products.
  • Ensure that product transfers to OMC’s are carried out accurately and efficiently.
  • Follow up on equipment defects and programmed maintenance to ensure they are accomplished and equipment safely handed over for Operations use
  • Arrange for month-end stock taking.
  • Prepare specifications for material procurement; carry out evaluations and material inspections. Ensure availability of consumable stock items in the stores.
  • Ensure corrosion inhibitor dosage in the right quantity to achieve the required concentration for pipeline internal protection.
  • Ensure adherence to safety procedures in the depot.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports covering product receipts and deliveries and other pertinent issues at the depot.
  • Provide training to new staff, students on attachment and visiting institutions.
  • Provide technical leadership to teams to enable them develop, implement and evaluate strategic management plans and budgets aimed at improving performance standards and organizational effectiveness.
  • Review incidents of violations against organizational policy and regulations as well as handle employee disputes and take appropriate action in line with approved policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Conduct training needs assessment, design and implement training programmes aimed at equipping staff with appropriate job competencies in order to improve the design and delivery of high quality services.
  • Plan, monitor and evaluate the performance of staff against set targets and objectives and implementing development action plans aimed at building the capacity of individuals and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ensure good customer relations are maintained with OMCs and Maintenance Sections.
  • Develop proposals for Budget consideration, prepare specifications for material procurement; carry out procurement evaluations and material inspections and ensure adequate availability of consumable stock items.    
  • Prepare the necessary reports for product movements and inventories in a timely manner.
  • In liaison with Assistant Operations Manager/Senior shift Engineer, ensures proper deployment of shift staff, leave arrangements and payment of allowances.
  • Maintain good house-keeping within the tank farm, interceptor and control room as to ensure safety
  • Maintain meter calibration program in liaison with the Assistant Operations Manager.
 Key Competencies 
  • Considerable knowledge and understanding of KPC requirements including broad knowledge of international trends in engineering and oil sector.
  • Well developed written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills including ability to prepare relevant reports.
  • Flexibility and responsiveness in handling operations and training in measurements and custody transfer and engineering issues.
  • Sound analytical skills and the ability to identify with precision the critical factors of an engineering problem.
  • Ability to maintain professional status and keep abreast of evolving trends in Petroleum Products through continuing professional development.
  • Proficiency in computer applications used in engineering.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in risk management, quality assurance as well as monitoring and evaluation.  
  • Ability to deliver KPC’s articulated vision for change, and motivate staff to accept change.
  • Ability to empower staff through coaching and counseling by emphasizing accountability and results oriented management rather than direct supervision.
Person Profile 
  • Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Civil Engineering or recognized equivalent
  • Registered and licensed with EBK as a professional Engineer.
  • Membership to IEK
  • Minimum of three (3) years relevant experience.
