Field Monitor


Diocese of Lodwar in pursuit of its vision ‘ A community of God’s People united by the Holy Spirit, dedicationg our lives to Christian Service to fight poverty and disadvantage’ while working in partnership with DFID Trocaire ASAL Resilience Programme in Loima(ARP – Loima) is seeking to recruit qualified persons to fill the following positions.

The ARP – Loima Project is a DFID Trocaire funded project for three – year intervention focussing on building livelihoods’ resilience among pastoralist and agro-pastoralist communities in Karemunyang and Turkwell in Turkwkell Division and Lokiriama, Lorengippi and Namoruputh in Loima Division (Loima District).

Background to the Role
The main activities funded under this project revolve around building new or adapted planning and coping strategies within the communities in Turkana County. As this involves the transmission of new knowledge, practising new skills and the adoption of new practices, communities need regular accompaniment and support. It is the role of the field monitor to provide this technical support in the process of change.

Description of Position
Mobilising, training and support communities as they encounter and internalise new livelihoods knowledge, skills and practices.

Location: Lodwar with travel throughout Turkana county
Reporting to: Project Coordinator (ARP – Loima Project)
Date of Issue: 3rd June, 2013
Deadline for Application: 17th June, 2013
Duration :3 years

Major Duties & Responsibilities:
 Mobilising and training communities in project activities across all components
 Providing field based support to others working within the target communities.
 Supporting communities after training to ensure that new knowledge, skills and resources are applied and developed.
 Contributing to project reports and capturing stories of change, in conjunction with the Project Assistant (media liaison and information management).
 Overseeing the distribution of project-funded resources to best address the needs of the poor and very poor, including monitoring the interpretation and administration of strategies of identifying target beneficiaries.

Qualifications, Attributes and Other Requirements Specific to the Role
 Diploma in Social Science and Community Development is a must
 Two years working experince
 Any Degree will be an added advantage
 Skilled in MS Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
 Ability to manage heavy workloads, to multi-task and to meet deadlines
 Ability to work both independently and in a team.
 Fluent written and spoken English, Kiswahili and Ng’aturkana
 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
 Dynamic and willing to take initiative
