Project Assistant (Media Liaison and Information Management)

Diocese of Lodwar in pursuit of its vision ‘ A community of God’s People united by the Holy Spirit, dedicationg our lives to Christian Service to fight poverty and disadvantage’ while working in partnership with DFID Trocaire ASAL Resilience Programme in Loima(ARP – Loima) is seeking to recruit qualified persons to fill the following positions.

The ARP – Loima Project is a DFID Trocaire funded project for three – year intervention focussing on building livelihoods’ resilience among pastoralist and agro-pastoralist communities in Karemunyang and Turkwell in Turkwkell Division and Lokiriama, Lorengippi and Namoruputh in Loima Division (Loima District).

Description of Position
Lead the creation of an effective management information system to support all planning, reporting and knowledge gathering commitments.

Background to the Role
This project comprises four main components: agro-pastoralist livelihoods work; pastoralist livelihoods initiatives; community mobilisation around disaster risk reduction and early warning systems and conflict resolution and social auditing. The effective management and dissemination of information is critical to enable project personnel to reflect on early experiences and adjust plans to maximise impact as well as to record and report on a full range of experiences (challenges and successes) during implementation.

Location:Lodwar with travel throughout Turkana county
Reporting to: Project Coordinator

Duration: 3 years

Duties & Responsibilities:
 Developing a communication strategy, in conjunction with the Trocaire Policy Officer, for the project outlining key local and national audiences and developing key advocacy messages
 Identifying and outlining stories of change within the four project components
 Liaising with intervention communities regarding field visits and supervising the logistics of all field trips.
 Accompanying monitoring and evaluation personnel and other visitors on field visits

Qualifications, Attributes and Other Requirements Specific to the Role
 Diploma in Project Management/Business Management or Community Development
 At least two years working experience in similar field
 Skilled in MS Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
 Ability to manage heavy workloads, to multi-task and to meet deadlines
 Ability to work both independently and in a team.
 Fluent written and spoken English, Kiswahili and Ng’aturkana
 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
 Dynamic and willing to take initiative
