Job Summary

Communications Intern will work with a team of youths to progress the aims of information dissemination to refugees. We need someone who is extremely creative to create a very user friendly, interactive and extremely informative website.


Job Responsibility
(1) Manage Word Press Blog with the Dadaab Youth Groups around the Camps
(1a) Edit/Prepare/Publish Blog Entries
  • Receive blog entries from Youths umbrella team members in Dadaab Refugee Camps
  • Read and edit entries so they communicate the desired message. This includes grammar, punctuation, spelling and ensuring the message fits in an international context.
  • Publish entries to word press blog as frequent as possible
(1b) Suggest material/content for blog 
  • Maintain an overall idea of the effectiveness of the blog/and website
  • Suggest desired content to the youth umbrellas
(2a) Create schedule for reporting from the Youth Umbrella Members
(2b) Support the youths in submission of Face book posts – ensure work is done properly
(3) Support the youths in Dadaab Camps in managing the website and update material as needed
  • Weekly updates of blog links, news or photos to show newest activity
(4) Support the dadaab youths manage You tube Account and assist the youth capture take weekly videos on camp events and post onto You tube account
  • Use You tube network to recruit new viewers to the youths site
  • Read and edit (grammar/punctuation/spelling) all material that is included in monthly newsletters

Required Skills:
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills
  • Good knowledge of HTML and experience with social media tools, specifically: twitter, you tube, face book, word press, google docs, dropbox you tube
  • Basic Adobe Photoshop skills (preferred) Strong knowledge of CMS systems (JOOMLA, WORDPRESS, PHOTOSTORE)
  • Passionate about blogging and writing
  • Friendly and conversational
  • Technologically savvy

In addition the skills you will need are:
  • Knowledge of humanitarian contexts
  • The right candidate will have a passion for all things digital and have an active digital life through different social media platforms.
