INTERNAL ADVERTISEMENT

An exciting and challenging position has arisen in the Business Daily where we wish to fill the position of Section Editor competitively. Result-oriented, dynamic, self-driven and web-savvy applicants are invited to apply.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Leading the generation of news content in multimedia formats;
  • Assessing political, social and economic climate while anticipating likely developments for coverage;
  • Briefing reporters and advising them to write and deliver stories within the set daily deadlines;
  • Copy testing and editing stories to ensure they meet editorial objectives, house style and journalistic ethics standards;
  • Liaises with the Managing Editor and other editors to produce stories for the relevant section.
  • Guiding reporters, monitoring their productivity and general content and appraising their performance;
  •  Monitoring, guiding and mentoring reporters and recommending areas for career growth.
 
Required Skills:

Academic Qualifications/experience:

  • University degree in Journalism or;
  • Bachelors’ degree in relevant field and a Postgraduate diploma in Journalism;
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a reporter or copy editor; 
  • Good grasp of local, regional and global economic news agenda;
  • Competence in legal, ethical and operational sensitivities relating to new media;
  • Mastery of English language and demonstrable organisational skills;
  • Good management, inter-personal and analytical skills.
