Data Analyst - Paid Intern

Reporting to: Data Analyst
Job location: Nairobi
Data Analyst Intern will play an important role in assisting the Research Unit reach its objectives in generation of research knowledge for evidence based decision making in the Humanitarian sector.
The candidate should have an interest in humanitarian affairs and preferable an understanding and interest in climate and environmental sciences.

This will include but not limited to:
Identifying data sources, collect information/data on District/County level indicators. Assist in managing core datasets through data gathering, coding and cleaning
Access and prepare data for use by other teams
Active participation in the design and maintenance of contextualized datasets for ongoing research assignments
Assist in preparation and presentation of core data
Assisting in desk research on topical issues and through literature and policy reviews in readiness for analysis.
Maintaining an awareness of the landscape and debates on data in the humanitarian sphere and flag this the research team.
Contributing to ICHA research papers, reports and blogs.
Essential:
Research, writing and visualisation skills.
Skills in internet-based research and data extraction Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
Resourcefulness in finding information and conducting research.
Highly numerate with an aptitude for analysing numerical data.
Quantitative skills for analysis (qualitative skills also encouraged) Excellent written and spoken English essential.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
Fast data entry and management skills in Excel or other data entry application.
An interest in development policy.
Desirable:
Working knowledge of statistics and statistical software (R, Stata, SPSS)
Intermediate programming skills (Python, JavaScript)
An undergraduate degree qualification in the field of development (development studies, economics, sociology etc.), Statistics, Data Science or similar discipline.
Knowledge on development issues.
Demonstrable interest in socio-economic development
An inquisitive open mind and the ability to think outside of the box.
A determined, agile, pragmatic and patient approach to problem solving. Good communication skills, both verbally and in writing
A willingness to continually improve technical and analytical competencies Desire to learn and grow professionally
Ability to embrace company values
Ability to prioritise and execute with prudence to achieve company goals
Able to work collaboratively within and across teams and to organise time accordingly
