MEDICAL OFFICER
Job Purpose
Attending to patients in the Outpatient and Inpatient departments in line with Standard Treatment Guideline
Main duties and responsibilities: –
INPATIENT
Reviewing patients in the in-patient department in conjunction with the admitting consultant.
Attending to direct admissions.
Attending to any emergencies in the In-patient department.
Conducting daily mini ward rounds and accompanying consultants during their rounds.
Performing minor procedures like intravenous cannulation, NG tube fixation among others.
Writing medical reports and discharge summaries.
Participation in trainings including weekly CMEs
Maintaining medical records through proper documentation of patients’ medical histories
Counseling patients and relatives on diagnosis and bereavement
Report any issues that may have arisen during the shift to the Medical Officer In- Charge.
OUTPATIENT
Attending to patients in the Out Patient department as per Standard Treatment Guidelines.
Attending to any emergencies in the A&E
Participation in trainings including weekly CMEs
Maintaining medical records through proper documentation of patient’s medical history and procedures done
Counseling patients and relatives on diagnosis and bereavement
Reporting any issues that may have arisen during the shift to the Medical Officer In- Charge in real-time
Ensuring all qualifications are up-to date including ACLS & BLS certifications, medical license and Annual retention certificate
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications
BLS AND ACLS certificates is a MUST.
ATLS is an added advantage.
Registration with The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
Retention Certificate from The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
1-year post internship experience in a busy hospital.
Required Skills
Knowledgeable in basic anatomy, physiology, pharmacology
Computer literate
Familiar with locally available drugs and their indications
Good interpersonal skills
A team player
Excellent customer service skills
Culturally sensitive
