Environment, Occupational Health and Safety- Technician Operations

ILRI Seeks to recruit a Technician-Operations to  provide technical assistance in the Environment, Occupational and Health and Safety to Operations and other non-Lab units at ILRI.
The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) works to enhance the roles livestock play in pathways out of poverty in developing countries. ILRI has two main campuses in East Africa and other hubs in East, West and southern Africa and South, Southeast and East Asia. www.ilri.org.

Responsibilities
  • Pest control; organise periodic fumigation respond to reported pest incidents.
  • Waste management; organise periodic pick up for different waste categories.
  • Fire safety: organise periodic services Maintenance and testing of fire fighting   equipment.
  • Kitchen hygiene; organise periodic kitchen hygiene inspections and food sampling for microbiological tests.
  • Office safety; carry out periodic office and workshop EOHS inspection to ascertain office and workshops at ILRI maintain safe work environment.
  • Water analysis; conduct daily microbiological water analysis.
  • Waste water analysis; conduct weekly effluent analysis.
  • First aid; Conduct periodic first aid boxes’ inspection and replenish as necessary.
  • Environment data collate monthly environment data e.g. water energy waste etc.
  • Incident management; maintain a database of all EOHS incident and accident.
  • Communication: produce EOHS monthly bulletin.
  • Permits; prepare applications and processing of permits and licences.
  • Webpage; maintain the EOHS webpage.
  • Training; conduct EOHS induction training.
  • Records; maintain accurate EOHS records.
  • Other duties as may be directed by the supervisor.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in in relevant area.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multicultural environment
  • Documentation skills
  • Computer skills with proficiency in excel, power point and Ms Word.
  • Good communication skills including writing skills in English.
Terms of Appointment
This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position based at ILRI’s Nairobi campus. The position is on a 2 year contract with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and continued funding.

Job level and salary
This position is job Grade 2A level 2. This is exclusive of other benefits provided by ILRI.
Location: The position will be based at the ILRI campus.
