CIC Insurance Group consists of three subsidiaries; CIC General Ltd, CIC Life Assurance Ltd and CIC Asset Management Ltd; currently CIC has businesses operating all over Kenya with 19 branches. In order to execute its ambitious growth and expansion strategy, CIC wishes to recruit high caliber individuals to fill the following position:
Head of Life Business, MALAWI
Job Purpose
To provide strategic leadership and grow the Life business for the company with the aim of ensuring sustainability, profitability and good returns to the shareholders.
Duties & Responsibility
  1. Market and sell all CIC Insurance products to ensure branch growth and penetration
  2. To assist in the development, communication and implementation of the corporate strategic plan for the Life Business
  3. To participate in formulating, communicating and implementing the business operation plan and budgets for the subsidiary so as to promote and expand the business.
  4. To provide strategic direction on matters relating to business performance, new investments and business opportunities and changes to enhance profitability and shareholder value.
  5. To prepare regular and periodic reports for the Principal Officer and the GCEO that monitors progress against the agreed operational goals to implement the strategic plan
  6. To ensure the Life business adheres to corporate governance, regulator and ethical standards.
  7. To represent the subsidiary and company at industry events
  8. To ensure all the audit findings are implemented.
  9. To ensure that service to Customers is continuously improved, customer complaints and feedback tracked and that new products are developed and launched.
  10. To maintain a conducive work environment for attracting, retaining and motivating subsidiary staff.
  11. Ensure the full complement of staff is recruited, are trained to enhance their skills, have discussed their career options, recommended for promotion fairly, have been objectively appraised and that all staff take their annual leave.
  12. To ensure the subsidiary is aware of the latest industry trends, recommends and gains approval from the GCEO and implements new developments for the local market.
  13. Maintain acceptable expense and loss ratios.
  14. Support continuous, research, innovation and product development.
  15. Supervise, train and develop staff, intermediaries and other service providers to achieve a highly productive and motivated team with clear career plans for succession planning.
Academic qualifications
• B.Com Insurance, Actuarial Science, Finance, Marketing or BA Economics or Statistics, or BBA.
• MBA is a must.
Professional qualifications
• ACII is a must.
• FLOMA or Actuarial or CPA(K) or ACCA or CFA
• Certification in corporate governance is an added advantage.
Relevant work experience
• At least 10 years of which 5 years must be at senior management level in the financial services industry.
Skills, Knowledge and Competencies
Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills
Excellent interpersonal, motivational and leadership skills
Good knowledge of finance, budgeting process, local and global financial services industry trends and compliance regulations
Ability to think strategically and passionate about driving the business to implement targets.
