Research Asssistant


The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization that carries out policy relevant research on population, health, education and development issues facing sub-Saharan Africa. With a grant from Comic Relief, the Center is implementing a project in two Nairobi slums to assess the impact of strengthening public-private partnerships for the delivery of health care on the health of mothers, newborns and young children. The project, which will be undertaken as part of the Center’s Health Challenges and Systems Program, seeks to recruit a Research Assistant to support implementation.


Key Responsibilities/Expectations
The Research Assistant will work closely with the Project Manager and other project staff to implement the project. Key responsibilities/tasks will include:
 Coordination and field supervision of the intervention activities
 Working closely with health facilities involved in the project to facilitate upgrading activities
 Liaising with community members to ensure effective implementation of activities in the project
 Collection of project monitoring data and report writing
 Any other activity as assigned by the Project Manager

Essential Qualifications and Skills
 Bachelor’s degree in a Health or related discipline
 Good computer skills
 Excellent communication skills in English & Swahili (both written and verbal)
 Excellent interpersonal skills
 Should be available immediately

Desirable Skills
 Experience working on issues related to service deliveryin primary health care settings
 Experience working in urban informal settlements

Period of Engagement
The candidate will be offered an initial one-year contract to be renewed based on his/her performance on the job.
