Research Officers



The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization that carries out policy relevant research on population, health, education and development issues facing sub-Saharan Africa. The Center seeks to recruit a Research Officer with a Masters degree in a public health or related field.

The overall purpose of the job is to participate in the design and implementation of the Center’s health research projects. The Research Officer will also provide assistance in the implementation of monitoring, evaluation and learning strategies that help assess the extent to which projects are meeting its objectives and delivering intended outcomes.

Duties
 Coordination of implementation of project activities
 Management of data collection, analysis, and dissemination activities
 Participation in community mobilization
 Liaison with various government agencies and partner organizations
 Preparing project progress reports, factsheets and policy briefs
 Assisting in writing scientific papers including literature review

Essential Qualifications/Skills
 Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Science and Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology or a related field
 At least 3 years direct experience in the coordination and implementation of public health programs
 Familiarity and experience with monitoring and evaluation frameworks and methodologies
 Good computer literacy
 Excellent report writing skills

Desirable
 Demonstrated experience in service delivery at primary health care level
 Knowledge of multiple statistical and qualitative software packages
 Evidence of scientific writing (e.g. publication in journals)
 Experience of working in urban slum settings
 Ability to work independently, set priorities, juggle tasks, meet deadlines
 Initiative and innovation in assessing situations, conflict resolution, team building
 Strong interpersonal and communication skills
 Excellent oral and written communication in English
