Purpose
of post
|
Under the
overall direction of the Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for Eastern
Africa (hereafter referred to as the UNESCO Nairobi Office), and the direct
supervision of the Finance and Administration Officer, the incumbent will
serve as ICT Assistant to provide broad based support to the Regional Office
in the area of ICT.

Responsibilities
|
He/she will:
1.
Manage and operate
all ICT infrastructure, equipment and services in the Regional office. Ensure
that ICT-delivered services and end-user needs are understood and met.
Foresee ICT configuration changes.
2.
Act as the focal
point for ICT related matters to ensure all Organizational strategic needs
are met.
3.
Plan in coordination
with UNESCO Central ICT for the rollout of new functionalities, applications
or services, systems upgrades and implement IT infrastructure changes;
install systems, network components and software. S/he should suggest best
technical solutions in order to achieve required standards while taking into
consideration local technical constraints. Develop action plans for improving
ICT services and reducing costs.
4.
Perform needs
assessment for new applications and modifications to existing ones, make sure
the related policies are followed and that every ICT initiative, project or
application is properly registered in the Application Portfolio.
5.
Identify and analyse
personnel training needs on ICT related areas, mainly on existing corporate
applications and desktop tools, and organize the appropriate courses. Assist
Regional office personnel on the operational questions related to daily work.
6.
Act as 1st
level of support for the Regional Office and provide 2nd level support in the
helpdesk ticketing flow for the region. Assist personnel in solving technical
problems and investigating elevated issues by confirming the validity of the
problem and seeking for known solutions related to these more complex issues.
If a problem is new and/or s/he cannot determine a solution, s/he is
responsible for raising this issue to Level 3 UNESCO HQ ICT technical support
group.
7.
Prepare and draft
ICT operational, technical, hardware, software requirements and
specifications for procurement and invitations to bid following existing policies and standards and in close cooperation
with HQ Central ICT.
8.
Update and maintain
the ICT equipment inventory.
9.
Liaise regularly
with Host Organization or Institution's Information Technology Service to
ensure efficient and reliable operations of the ICT infrastructure and proper
implementation of Service Level Agreements.* Represent UNESCO at ICT
inter-agency meetings and groups.
10.
Perform any other
duties as may be assigned.

Profile
|

The
position requires the completion of two years of post-secondary education in
the Informatics field, specifically related to systems administration,
network administration, and end-user support.

§ The incumbent is expected to have an in depth knowledge of
a diverse range of information technologies in order to research, recommend,
design, deploy, and support these technologies. This includes hardware such as workstations,
laptops, servers, network switches and routers, virtual private networking,
storage subsystems, storage networks, firewalls, modems, wireless networking
technologies, backup technologies. This also includes Microsoft server and
desktop operating system software as well as software for word processing,
spreadsheet functionality, email systems, internet browsers, virus
protection, software firewalls, remote management, virtualisation, citrix /
thin-client computing, system deployment software, backup software as well as
many miscellaneous and varied application software products that are in use
in office environments.
