MSH would like to invite a suitably qualified and experienced internal candidate to work join us as a Capacity Building Advisor for one of our CDC funded program.
MSH in partnership with the University of Nairobi, HIV Capacity Building Fellowship aims at Strengthening and sustaining the local HIV response through academic collaborations and organization development in Kenya. This is a consortium of implementing partners which includes; University of Nairobi (Prime), University of Washington, and Management Sciences for Health, in-addition to the key implementing partners, UoN will collaborate with four other Kenyan Universities (Kenyatta University, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University, Technical University –Mombasa and Egerton University).
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Capacity Building Advisor will take lead in the design of the organizational development aspects of the project and offer capacity building support to the Participating Local Partners (PLP). S/he will also participate in the development of project and partner performance indicators and targets to ensure that expectations and required results are fully understood.
Working closely with the Project Director, project partners, M&E staff and technical staff s/he will ensure that the organizational development activities are closely coordinated with other project activities (fellowship program and short courses) to maximize the total impact. S/he will work with M&E staff to track the progress and impact of organizational capacity building activities. In addition, s/he will support the project activities such as the analysis and documentation of project results, impact and compile technical reports. The Capacity Building Advisor will be expected to communicate results and accomplishments to all interested parties and key stakeholders groups.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Contribute to the design and implementation of the selection process for participating local partners (PLP).
Lead the process that identifies both organizational capacity gaps and workforce requirements that can be addressed by the training program.
Support the participating Local Partners ( PLP) in developing an organization’s capacity building plan based on findings of the organizational and cadre capacity profiles
Develop and understand the organizational assessment tools
Document the impact of the program at organizational level
Assist in the development and implementation of a process to evaluate the overall impact of the project’s activities, including the fellowship, short-term programs, and organizational capacity
Review, adapt, develop and/or modify, and implement tools, approaches, policies and advocacy initiatives to improve management and technical capacity of participating organizations
Collaborate with the principal investigator and other team members in fully integrating activities into the project’s overall goals
Participate in technical review meetings and serve as an advisor to participating local organizations on institutional systems strengthening.
Develop technical strategies and implement annual work plans to ensure project deliverables are achieved
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, public health or equivalent with minimum 6 years working experience. S/he should have significant experience in public health, health care management, international development or public policy, or equivalent experience in business development.
In addition, the candidate should have experience in providing Capacity Building/Organizational Development technical assistance in Kenya with substantial knowledge and experience in Kenya building capacity for public sector institutions, NGOs and CSOs. S/she should have successful track record of implementing interventions within the Kenyan health system, experience working with HIV/AIDS programs.
The preferred candidate should have demonstrable success and expertise in influencing and negotiation and advocacy work among senior-level donors and government counterparts in the country. In addition, s/he should have significant experience in local governance/public administration including capacity development of civil society organizations, policy reform, policy/legislative change, local community organizing, and advocacy. S/he should have proven effective leadership skills.
The successful candidate should have excellent communication (verbal & written), interpersonal, and negotiation skills. S/he should demonstrate good judgment and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, set priorities, work with minimal supervision under tight timelines and be able to work with cross-cultural teams. The candidate should be willing to travel within Kenya regularly.
