THE ORGANIZATION
Handicap International (HI) is an independent and impartial international aid organisation working in
situations of poverty and exclusion, conflict and disaster. Working alongside persons with disabilities
and other vulnerable groups, our action and testimony are focused on responding to their essential
needs, improving their living conditions and promoting respect for their dignity and their fundamental
rights.

THE PROJECT
HI, together with local partners, will launch a four-year programme, funded by the European Union, to
reduce the maternal, infant and child mortality rates among people with disabilities in the Kibera and
Korogocho slums of Nairobi, Kenya. The action aims to improve the long-term capacity of civil society
organisations, in partnership with state actors, to implement effective Maternal, Newborn and Child
Health (MNCH), Nutrition and Family Planning services for marginalised populations in Nairobi,
especially those with disabilities. By the end of the Action, healthcare workers will have improved their
Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices related to the needs of people with disabilities in services for MNCH, nutrition and family planning. Local partners will have the technical, financial and managerial capacity to implement effective community-based programmes on MNCH, nutrition, and family planning for people with disabilities.

THE POSITION
Responsible for the development and the implementation of the Maternal, New Born, Child Health (MNCH) project, which is part of the HI Kenya sector’s programme strategy. He/she contributes towards the capitalization of experience gained from the project

S/he will be responsible for:
1. Overall management of the project
Under the supervision of the Operational Coordinator, and in collaboration with the technical advisors
 Implementation of the activities
 Be in charge of the implementation of the project respecting all the requirements detailed in the project proposal agreed with the donor European Union (logical framework, work plan, monitoring plan, etc) as well as HI technical specificities.
 Ensure that all technical tools, reports, document, IEC material are validated before use by the adequate body (technical referent, operational coordinator, program director, etc)
 Data collection, monitoring and evaluation
 Be in charge of the implementation and the respect of HI Monitoring and Evaluation policy
 Developing and implementing a comprehensive and effective data collection system , in collaboration with implementing partners
 Ensuring that the data collection tools and the monitoring system is understood by its team and the partners to the project
 Reporting
 Be in charge of the writing and making timely submission of the reports requested by the donor
 Development
 Liaising with the Operational Coordinator and the Technical Advisors in the development of the project strategies, interventions and approaches
 Participating to the fundraising strategy
 Visibility
 Ensuring that the visibility policy defined by the donor and HI is respected and implemented (stickers, banners, logos, etc)
2. Establishing and maintaining linkages with partners
 Develop partnerships agreements with local implementing partners as defined in the proposal.
 Ensuring that the partnership agreements are respected.
3. Supervision of financial, logistic and material resources of the project implementation
 Develop a budget for the project during proposal development and budget revision.
 Monitor the project’s financial, logistical and material resources according to HI procedures
4. Management and supervision of staff under his/her line management
5. Contribute towards the capitalization of experience
 Identifying issues or subjects for capitalization in collaboration with the Technical Advisors and coordinators
 Be in charge of the lesson learnt/best practice strategy
6. Respect of HI identity, rules and policies

PROFILE SOUGHT
Essential Desired
Education At least a University Degree in Public Health /Health Science
Experience
Minimum of 10 years practical experience in project management in Public Health interventions
Applied knowledge of disability issues and/or humanitarian work desirable

Competencies
Minimum 10 years practical experience with international donor-funded projects
Proven skills in strategic and operational planning
Proven skills in budget development, budget monitoring , cash forecast and financial management
Donor report writing skills
Staff administrative management
Technical background in MCH
Excellent written and spoken English (working language).
Computer skills ( Ms word, excel, power point,
internet and electronic messaging system)

Good decision making skills,Good communication skills
Ability to multitask, innovative and problem solving
