Data Analyst

Background:
VSF-Suisse is an International NGO, supporting humanitarian, food security, livelihoods and development programs the Horn of Africa region since 1995.

In its South Sudan Program, the organization currently implements projects funded by the EU, USAID/OFDA, UNDP, UNICEF and FAO in Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Unity and Warrap States. The program aims to enhance improved livelihoods and self-reliance of target beneficiaries through (i) improved crops-livestock production practices; (ii) livestock assets protection through emergency veterinary services; (iii) appropriate crops, livestock and livestock products value addition and marketing; (iv) supporting institution and capacity strengthening to relevant partner Ministries in the Republic of South Sudan and the private sector and, (v) facilitating economic reintegration of vulnerable groups into agro-pastoral livelihoods in South Sudan.

VSF-Suisse seeks to fill the following position immediately for the South Sudan Program. The position is field based and aspiring candidates should be willing to reside and work under basic but gradually improving living conditions. The position will initially be for a period of 12 months but renewable depending on availability of new donor funding.

DATA ANALYST (1 POST)

Key Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Project Manager and in collaboration with other technical staff, the position holder will:
• Provide expertise to acquire, manage, manipulate, and analyze data and report results
• In collaboration with others, develop and maintain databases and systems necessary for projects and departmental functions
• Acquire and abstract primary or secondary data from existing internal or external data sources
• In collaboration with others, develop and implement data collection systems and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and data quality
• Perform data entry either manually or using scanning technology, when needed or required
• In collaboration with others, interpret data and develop recommendations based on findings
• Develop graphs, reports and presentations of project results
• Perform basic statistical analyses for projects and reports
• Create and present quality dashboards
• Generate routine and ad hoc reports

Knowledge, skills and experience
• Technical skills regarding data models and database design development
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
• Experience in using SAS, SPSS or other statistical packages is desirable for handling large datasets
• Programming skills preferred. Adept at queries and report writing
• Knowledge of statistics, at least to the degree necessary in order to communicate easily with statisticians
• Experience in data mining techniques and procedures and knowing when they use is appropriate
• Ability to present complex information in an understandable and compelling manner
• Bachelors/Diploma in information management, livestock information, computing, mathematics, or related field
• Agriculture/livestock/natural resources background or experience
• At least 3 years previous data analyst experience
• Experience in carrying out assessments, baseline surveys, monitoring and community participatory evaluation exercises.
• Experience in gender sensitive participatory approaches in community development work
• Excellent organizational and managerial skills.
• Excellent communication skills, interpersonal relations, and conflict resolution abilities
• Ability to work in multicultural team and strict adherence to rules, regulations and guidelines
• Knowledge and experience of working with agro-pastoral communities will be an added advantage
