Programme Officer – Environment and Livelihoods


1.0 Introduction
Volunteers for Africa is a registered international NGO with a mandate to operate in Eastern Africa in the areas of Livelihoods improvement, Entrepreneurship, Training and Volunteerism with a special focus to key sectors of Environment and Climate Change, Health, Water and Sanitation. Promoting volunteerism in the region is a key mandate of the organisation. VFA has been in existence since 2001, working alongside marginalised communities to eliminate poverty, hunger and disease.
The organisation is seeking to bolster its work in the region and, as such, is seeking to employ a team of vibrant, ambitious change-makers to advance its agenda. The position(s) will attract recently graduated professionals with a vision for professional growth, and attract a decent start-up salary, that will rise according to performance and opportunities.
VACANCY

2.0 Title: Programme Officer – Environment and Livelihoods
Based in Nairobi but expected to spend 3 days a week in Nakuru with frequent travels to Naivasha, Yala and other parts of Kenya, the Project Officer is expected to undertake the following duties;
Roles and Responsibilities
- In coordination with the Project team assist in managing the Governance, Environment and Development (GED) project in Naivasha and Yala
- Assist the project team in project implementation of the GED project
- Assist the project team in monitoring and evaluating of the GED project
- Writing quarterly as well as progress reports
- Support the organisation in communicating the impact of its programmes in platforms such as social media, online platforms (website), documentation, et al.
- Assist in the development of proposals

Qualifications
- Minimum Bachelors Degree in Environmental, Social Science, Development Studies or any relevant studies
- Minimum 2 years exposure and experience of community development engagement/interventions
-Demonstrable track-record in volunteerism or advancing causes
-Knowledge and exposure in programming and management of community development projects, project design and implementation
-Excellent IT skills
-Knowledge and exposure in logistics as well as administration
- Ability to work in a team
- Willingness and ability to travel at least 80% of the entire project period
