Job Title: Poultry Farm Supervisor
Location: Usa River, Arusha
Job Objective
The Poultry Supervisor will report directly to the Owners. He/She will manage all aspects of a new poultry business necessary to sustain the operation as a viable, exemplary revenue-producing institution in accordance with the Five Year Poultry Plan. The Poutry Supervisor will work to ensure maximum operational and financial performance of the poultry business. Every effort must be made to resolve internally, disputes or conflicts regarding poultry business matters. Those matters which cannot be resolved will be referred to the Owners.
The Poultry Supervisor is responsible for the daily operational activities of the poultry business to include the direct supervision of assigned employees; the care, accountability, protection and well-being of all livestock in accordance with established industry standard practice, NAFDAC standards for quality eggs production and the Quality Assured International approved Farm Organic Standards Protocol and The Humane Farm Animal Care Standards; all associated field management activities, administration of livestock record-keeping, upkeep of the fixed and mobile property facilities associated with livestock production, and husbandry of the animal assets. In conjunction with the Farm Manager and the Owners, prepare and implement the Five Year Poultry Plan
Responsibilities
This is a broad and challenging role and specific responsibilities of the role will include all of the following tasks that are to be performed, where appropriate, with the assistance of the Farm Manager and other members of the poultry work force and/or the Owners:
* Plan, oversee and participate in the management of all aspect of the poultry business; including poultry husbandry; egg, cull and manure production and sales; ordering storage and consumption of poultry feeds and water
* Insure the maintenance of livestock, equipment and production records; maintain strict bio security measures
* Assist with the care and maintenance of farm property other than residential structures and grounds.
* Prepare and implement (upon approval by the Owners) the Five Year Poultry Plan (FYPP) for the poultry business to include the Master Schedule and the Five Year Budget.
* Prepare a Quarterly status Report of performance with respect to the FYP.
* By the 15th of January of each year, present the Annual Report to the Owners on the poultry business performance vis-Ã -vis the Five Year Plan for the past year, followed by the presentation of the revised Five Year Plan for the upcoming five year period.
* Enforce high standards of safety, cleanliness and maintenance on personnel and property.
* Exercise appropriate supervisory control of employees.
* Liaise with external stakeholders (e.g. local authority, poultry associations, competitors, suppliers etc) to the business to prevent any conflict occurring as a result of the business with consultation with the owners.
* Knowledge of financial record keeping and accounting.
* Confers with owner and farm employees to ascertain production requirements and to discuss condition of equipment and status of supplies.
* Assists workers where required in duties, for example collecting and candling eggs, feeding and vaccinating poultry, crating and shipping eggs, and cleaning and fumigating chicken houses. Directs maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment, for example chicken houses, automatic feeders, and layer nests.
* Trains new workers. Participates in work activities to expedite work load.
* Prepares worker attendance, egg production, feed consumption, and poultry mortality reports.
* Participates in work activities to expedite work load
Qualifications & Experience.
* Bachelor’s or HND degree in animal science and husbandry or related discipline. Second class upper degree is an advantage.
* Successful candidate will be result oriented, able to take lead and work without supervision.
* Candidates will have worked on a poultry farm before.
* Strong business development, communication and writing skills.
* Ability to work effectively in a team.
* Work effectively to deadlines; even under pressure
* Excellent listening skills
* Ability to learn very fast and follow dynamics of the poultry industry evolution worldwide.
* Problem solving skills
* Working knowledge of Quickbooks is an added advantage
