Data Assistant, Scaling Seeds and Other Technologies Partnership

The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) is working with African governments, donors, NGOs, the private sector and African farmers to significantly and sustainably improve the productivity and incomes of resource poor farmers in Africa through agricultural development targeted at resource poor farmers.  AGRA has its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, a regional office in Accra, Ghana and is opening several country-based offices.

AGRA is seeking to recruit highly competent and experienced individuals to fill the following position: 

Data Assistant, Scaling Seeds and Other Technologies Partnership (SSTP) (Ref.: DA - SSTP / 1-14)

Scaling Seeds and Other Technologies Partnership coordinates related but separate country and donor-financed programs to strengthen the seed sector and promote the commercialization or availability of technologies at scale through non-profit mechanisms that are critical for meeting seed adoption and yield gap goals.

The Data Assistant, SSTP will be responsible for collection, verification, analysis and overall management of data for reporting to aid in decision making.  The Data Assistant, SSTP will report to the Monitoring & Evaluation Officer, SSTP.

This position is nationally recruited and will be based in Nairobi, Kenya on a two (2) year fixed term contract.

Specific responsibilities will include:
·         Supporting data management systems development and / or review for the Scaling Seeds and other Technologies Partnership;
·         Ensuring data is collected from grantees periodically as agreed and in acceptable standards;
·         Spearheading data management activities including collection, cleaning, organizing, entry and data processing from the Partnership grantees based on the approved plans;
·         Uploading data into the Partnership database while maintaining the overall functioning and updating of the database in consultation with the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer and appropriate Regional and Country teams;
·         Liaising with the AGRA IT department and outsourced IT providers to ensure good functionality of the data management system;
·         Working with the respective Program Assistants and the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer to ensure timely grantee data compilation for reporting and providing backstopping support on data related issues to the SSTP team;
·         Assisting in organizing SSTP Monitoring and Evaluation meetings and logistical support for evaluations /  thematic studies; and
·         Participating in Monitoring and Evaluation field visits and data quality assessments as may occasionally be required.

Key qualifications, knowledge and experience required:
·         A  Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems, Statistics or a related discipline from a recognized university;
·         At least two (2) years proven experience in Monitoring and Evaluation working with databases and generating reports;
·         Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite with the ability to use the internet to obtain data and reference material;
·         Ability to work under minimal supervision, results-oriented, accountable  and pay attention to detail;
·         Strong organizational skills and ability to work under pressure; and
·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proven interpersonal and customer service skills.
