Research Technician

ILRI seeks to recruit a Research Technician to join a team of professionals working on the Regional Strategic Analysis and Knowledge Support System (ReSAKSS) initiative. The objective of ReSAKSS is to provide data, information and knowledge to stakeholders in order to improve the formulation, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of agricultural and rural development strategies in Africa. The successful candidate will work with the Eastern and Central Africa Node of ReSAKSS based at ILRI-Nairobi which is set up to serve the COMESA region in the implementation of the Comprehensive African Agriculture Development Program (CAADP).

ILRI works to enhance the roles livestock play in pathways out of poverty in developing countries. ILRI is a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) Consortium, a global research partnership of 15 centres working with many partners for a food-secure future. ILRI has two main campuses in East Africa and other hubs in West and southern Africa and South and Southeast Asia. www.ilri.org.

The Centre’s headquarters are located in Nairobi, Kenya, and research is conducted in 31 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. We are supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) and receive funding from over 50 different donors.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to research activities on the nexus of gender, agriculture, rural development and regional policy;
  • Contribute to desk reviews, design of survey instruments, data management and analysis;
  • Support data collection efforts on gender in agriculture and rural development in Africa;
  • Contribute to manuscripts/write–ups for reports, policy briefs, conceptual notes, and other ReSAKSS publications on gender-related activities as well as presentations/posters for national and international workshops and conferences;
  • Provide support for different training activities;
  • Assist in the organization of ReSAKSS seminars, workshops and other outreach activities;
  • Perform any other duties assigned by supervisor from time to time.
 Requirements:
  • BSc. degree with 3 years’ experience in agricultural/environmental sciences, economics or rural development;
  • Experience in promoting gender mainstreaming in agricultural projects and policy research for development would be an asset.
  • Proficiency in English, additional languages would be an asset;
  • Knowledge of statistics – statistical software (STATA, SPSS);
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office package and applications;
  • Good analytical and organizational skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team and multi-cultural environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new skills and meet tight deadlines.
Terms of appointment:
This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) positions based at ILRI’s Nairobi campus and is for a 2 year contract period.

Job level and salary:
This position is job level 2B with a starting salary of KES83,606 per month. This is exclusive of other benefits provided within ILRI’s National Recruited Staff Scheme
