Kindergarten Teacher

Our client is an upcoming private accredited kindergarten center catering to young children one (1) to seven (7) years of age.

Our Client is looking for a young, energetic and passionate individual to fill the position of Kindergarten Teacher
Job Purpose
The Job holder will Provide an educational program for kindergarten students in an environment favourable to learning and personal growth; establishes effective rapport with children to promote positive attitudes of self-worth; motivates students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further participation in the total school program, in accordance with each child’s ability; establishes good relationships with parents and with other staff members
Key responsibilities
  •  Teaches elemental natural and social science, personal hygiene, music, art, and literature to children from 4 to 6 years old, to promote their physical, mental, and social development:
  • Instructs children in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth in facility, such as preschool or day care centre.
  • Plans individual and group activities for children, such as learning to listen to instructions, playing with others, and using play equipment.
  • Supervises activities, such as field visits, group discussions, and dramatic play acting, to stimulate students’ interest in and broaden understanding of their physical and social environment.
  • Fosters cooperative social behavior through games and group projects to assist children in forming satisfying relationships with other children and adults.
  • Encourages students in singing, dancing, rhythmic activities, and in use of art materials, to promote self-expression and appreciation of esthetic experience.
  • Instructs children in practices of personal cleanliness and self-care.
  • Alternates periods of strenuous activity with periods of rest or light activity to avoid overstimulation and fatigue.
  • Observes children to detect signs of ill health or emotional disturbance, and to evaluate progress.
  • Demonstrates activity.
  • Structures play activities to instil concepts of respect and concern for others.
  • Monitors individual and/or group activities to prevent accidents and promote social skills.
  • Reads books to entire class or to small groups.
  • Confers with parents to explain preschool and kindergarten program and to discuss ways they can develop their child’s interest.
  • Discusses students’ problems and progress with parents.
  • Plans instructional activities for teacher aide.
  • Administers tests to determine each child’s level of development according to design of test.
  • Attends staff meetings.
Minimum Requirements
  • A Certificate/Diploma in Early Childhood Education
  • Bachelor s Degree an added advantage
  • A minimum of 1 year of professional early childhood education teaching experience required
  • Montessori curriculum experience an added advantage
Knowledge and attributes
  • Demonstrated knowledge of developmentally appropriate curriculum practice for 4 and 5 year old children
  • Demonstrated flexibility, adaptability and openness to new ideas in education practices, particularly related to Kindergarten Prep curriculum and materials
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to create partnerships with families
  • Proven strength in verbal and written communication and organizational skills          
  • Passionate, energetic, motivated, driven and fun
Salary:  Kshs. (12,000 – 20,000)
