The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.  UN-Habitat’s Advocacy, Outreach and Communications Branch helps to implement advocacy, outreach and communications strategies supporting the dissemination of the normative and technical work, in order to strengthen the corporate image and positioning of the Programme, increase outreach and disseminate key messages to enhance global awareness and sensitization on sustainable urbanization issues. This post is located in the Production Unit in the Advocacy, Outreach and Communications Branch, at the Nairobi Duty Station. Under the direct supervision of the Head, Production Unit, the incumbent will perform the following tasks:
   
Responsibilities
   
Participate in initial meetings with clients to discuss potential design projects, e.g. substantive content, communication objectives, media (including electronically published products) and design options, technical specifications, costs, schedules/deadlines, etc.

Independently undertake design assignments, including high priority requests, for a variety of UN-Habitat sponsored activities (e.g. major conferences, observances, events and campaigns); conceptualize and develop design proposals for review by clients, which may include photographic, illustrative or more abstract graphic solutions.

Prepare all approved designs in digital format for final review, printing and digital publishing as well as pre-press quality checks.

Provide guidance and support throughout the production process; coordinate and follow-up with clients and other relevant parties such as proof readers, production staff, photographers and cartography staff, and ensure that deadlines are met.

Perform other related duties as may be assigned.

Education
   
High school diploma or equivalent with supplemental training in Graphic Design.
   
Work Experience

Seven years’ relevant work experience in graphic design required. Specific experience in publication design, corporate identity and exhibition/event design will be an advantage.
   
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required.
