Responsibilities:
The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the Secretary-General. UNON supports the programme implementation of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, conference and information services. The post is located in the Division of Conference Services (DCS) under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Information Technology Unit at the Nairobi duty station.
Responsibilities:

1.End User and Conference Support
1.1 Assist in monitoring service desk operations, logging of trouble tickets, categorization into incidents, problems and requests, servicing of calls, escalate where necessary and ensure timely resolution;

1.2 Support meeting operations including requirements definition, resource planning, preparation, setup, delegate support and eliciting feedback for continual improvement;
1.3 Assist in recruiting and supervising interns and short-term staff to assist with the workload during peak periods;
1.4 Coordinate with the Information and Communication Technology Section (ICTS) , the Enterprise Application Centres and external vendors on the resolution of trouble tickets.

2. System and Database Administration
2.1 Perform system and database administration on DGACM and 3rd party applications;
2.2 Escalate Level 2 trouble tickets and ensure timely resolution;
2.3 Apply the latest patches and upgrades to applications;
2.4 Analyze users’ requests for information, formulate effective database queries & design reports;
2.5 Develop training materials and conduct training for new and existing users in the use of DGACM applications;
2.6 Prepare and maintain technical documentation and user manuals;
2.7 Monitor the usage and user-satisfaction of applications and make recommendations for improvement.

3. Application development and support
3.1 Assist in managing projects involving feasibility study, systems analysis, design, development, quality assurance and implementation of new moderately complex systems and participating as a member of the development team;
3.2 Support and maintain existing in-house systems including the DCS website;
3.3 Prepare software development coding standards;
3.4 Provide guidelines and ideas on introduction of new technologies;

4. Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Completion of secondary education is required. Supplemental training in Computer Science, System Administration, Database Administration, Service Operations, System Analysis, Software Development, or other related IT field is required. ITIL Service Operations Knowledge and other IT certifications are highly desired.
Work Experience:
Seven years of relevant and progressively responsible experience in the Information Technology field specifically in the areas of system/database administration, service desk operations and software development is required. Experience in Drupal is highly desirable.
Languages:
English and French are the working language of United Nations Secretariat. For the post
advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
Other Desirable Skills:
Excellent computer skills (MS Office including Access, Word, Excel and email) are required.
