Information and Communication Assistant

EUROPEAN COMMISSION DIRECTORATE -GENERAL FOR HUMANITARIAN AID and CIVIL PROTECTION - ECHO
The European Commission’s Directorate General for Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection (ECHO) funds relief operations for victims of natural disasters and conflicts outside the European Union. For humanitarian aid, the Commission works with about 200 operational partners, including United Nations agencies, the Red Cross/Crescent movement and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Aid is channeled impartially, straight to victims, regardless of their race, ethnic group, religion, gender, age, nationality or political affiliation.
The ECHO office based in Nairobi, Kenya, requires an Information & Communications Assistant:
The candidate must:
  • Have a relevant university degree (in media or communications) and minimum of five years relevant experience in the development and/or humanitarian aid sector / INGO’s /NGO’s. If a university degree is not provided, ten years working experience in the development and/or humanitarian aid sector/ INGO’s /NGO’s will be required;
  • Be fluent in English (oral and written).
As a part of a small but dynamic team, the Information & Communications Assistant will carry out activities under the guidance from the ECHO/Technical Assistant such as:
  • Situation assessments;
  • Analysis of ECHO partners' proposals;
  • Monitoring, evaluation and coordination of projects
  • Reporting and programme administration
  • Liaising with partners in an advisory capacity
