Organizational Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the Secretary-General. We support programme implementation of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, conference and information services (www.unon.org). The post is located in the Resource Management Section (RMS) of the Information and Communications Technology Service (ICTS) in UNON.

Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Chief, Resource Management Section (RMS), the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
1. Act as IMIS security assistant responsible for maintaining IMIS user profiles.
2. Provide support to IMIS users.
3. Provide hand-on training for new IMIS users.
4. Provide IMIS Reporting Facility Application (IFRA) support including Paradox configuration and troubleshooting.
5. Write SQL scripts in investigating documents' related postings and troubleshoot users' error reports.
6. Write Sybase stored procedures, triggers and views fro proper functionality of in-house developed applications.
7. Develop in-house application using the latest Rapid Application Development (RAD).
8. Design web enabled reporting applications.
9. Perform other IMIS related duties as required.

Education
High School diploma or equivalent. Supplemental courses / technical certificate in Information Technology ; supplemental training to keep abreast of changes in information technology; an associate university degree or equivalent in computer science / information technology is desirable.

Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of relevant and progressively responsible experience in the
information technology field. Experience in the administration, management and operation of a large IT environment with MS servers desirable.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another United Nations Officials language is an advantage

Assessment Method
Evaluation of qualified candidates for this position may include a substantive assessment which may be followed by a competency-based.

Special Notice
Appointment against this post is on a local basis. External candidates will be considered only when no suitable internal candidate from the duty station is identified. The candidate is responsible for any travel expenses incurred in order to take-up the appointment. Staff members are subject to the authority of and assignment by the Secretary-General. All staff are expected to move periodically to new functions.
