The successful candidate will be offered a Temporary Appointment for One (1) year. Further extensions will be based on organizational needs, availability of funds and satisfactory performance.
Purpose of the post:
The Security Assistant will be responsible for assisting the Senior Security Advisor in his/her daily duties and during his absence will be required to conduct vital functions as advised. The Security Assistant will ensure that all duties are completed in accordance with the tasks and responsibilities as outlined.
The Security Assistant will assist his/her supervisor with administrative support functions that enhance staff safety and security while enable UNICEF programmes delivery and operations in Kenya and Somalia.
Major duties and responsibilities:
1. Provides administrative support to the Security Unit. Maintains and strictly observes the Security plan, updating staff lists, updating information including situation reports, maps, warden plans and staff data. Assist with staff movements into Kenya and Somalia facilitating, monitoring and coordinating the security clearance process.
2. Responsible for the maintenance of Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS) equipment Kenya and Somalia. Identifies and operates emergency communication channels when required.
3. Conducts security surveys and provides advice on security measures for the residences of UNICEF staff. Assists in security risk assessments as required.
4. Assists in evacuation / relocation of UNICEF staff as and when warranted by the security situation, in accordance with security instructions and directives.
5. Drafts and compiles security related reports in English. Keeps all UNICEF Staff abreast on any developing security situation and releases timely security warnings.
6. Liaises and coordinate with UNDSS Kenya and Somalia’s and the Security Cell on all aspects of staff safety and security and in the absence of the Senior Security Advisor act as an observer at the Somalia security cell.
7. Performs other security related tasks, as required.
Qualifications, Experience and competencies
1. Completion of secondary education supplemented with university courses in International law, Political or social Science, Business or Public Administration..
2. 3-5 years of progressive administrative experience required. Strong preference to those with at least two years’ experience of United Nations Security Management System practices. Proven knowledge of and experience in the region is highly desirable. Commitment to meeting deadlines and drive for results.
3. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, good team player
4. Fluency in English and Local working language of the duty station.
5. Excellent computer skills specifically Microsoft Office and UNICEF proprietary systems.
