Nutrition Advocacy Officer

The Kenya AIDS NGOs Consortium (KANCO) is a national membership network of NGOs, CBOs, and FBOs, Private Sector actors and Research and Learning Institutions involved in or that have interest in HIV & AIDS and TB activities in Kenya. Its membership is open to all registered NGOs, CBOs, FBOs, PLHIV support organizations, Learning Institutions, public and private sector organizations in Kenya.

The organization also provides for associate membership that includes individuals and International Non-Governmental Organization partners. Currently, KANCO has a membership of over 1000 organizations and numerous individuals that are networking, collaborating and are bound together by a common vision of a healthy Kenyan people with secure and sustainable access to HIV, TB and other public health care services. KANCO’s overall goal is to provide leadership among civil society organizations contribution towards realization of universal access targets in Kenya. Its main focus is on three main strategic areas that include (a) Community Systems Strengthening (b) Improving policy for HIV/AIDS and TB (c) Institutional Systems Strengthening.

KANCO is seeking to employ a suitable person for the Nutrition Advocacy Officer Position Responsibilities
1. Lead and manage KANCO’s advocacy on nutrition through identifying nutrition advocacy opportunities locally and globally
2. Identify nutrition related policy gaps and take lead in policy advocacy both at the local and global levels
3. Take lead in resource mobilisation initiatives for advocacy from both local and global sources.
4. Increase the profile of nutrition among relevant stakeholders who include, CSOs, Government and media.
5. Manage the nutrition portfolio with the particular emphasis on creating and sustaining linkages between CSOs, Ministry of health and donors
6. Maintain and expand KANCO’s national and global role in Nutrition
7. Provide overall management of the nutrition project and represent the organization in all technical working groups, meeting and nutrition foras
8. Linking with the Actionwide partners on nutrition advocacy
9. Collate and record data for monitoring and evaluation on nutrition and ensure timely reporting  of nutrition project
10. Build and strengthen media capacity in nutrition reporting and coverage
11. Be the overall responsible person for development of the nutrition advocacy work plan, its  implementation and programmatic reporting12. Prepare and update of training material, guidelines, information-communication-education (IEC) material, and implementation tools
13. Managing completion of project deliverables.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
 University degree in Nutrition
 Post graduate studies in Public Health, Nutrition or a related technical field
 Experience in nutrition and familiarity with latest developments in nutrition.
 Experience in training, capacity building and community participation mechanisms
 Experience of a flexible approach to managing and prioritizing a high workload and multiple tasks in a fast paced environment with tight deadlines
 Experience of proactively identifying and addressing issues
 General knowledge of global health and nutrition issues, and the current trends, methods and approaches required. Policies and strategy to address national and global health and nutrition issues.
 Relevant experience in nutrition and advocacy at the national level is desired
 High sense of integrity and Results oriented.
 Ability to communicate with tact.
 Ability to work independently and accurately.
 Strong communication skills, with excellent written and spoken English
 Knowledge of computer applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint
 Registered with Kenya Nutrition and Dietician Institute will be an added advantage
 Minimum 5years’ experience with at least 2 years of progressively responsible professional work experience nutrition project administration.
 Computer skills, including internet navigation, and various office applications
