Under the overall supervision of the Officer in Charge (O.I.C.) FAO Somalia and the direct supervision of the Procurement Officer and/or the NPO, the incumbent provides procurement services ensuring high quality and accuracy of work. The Procurement Assistant promotes a client, quality and results-oriented approach in the Unit, and ensure consistent service delivery. In particular, he/she will:

·         Assist in the local procurement process of goods from local suppliers;
·         Assist in the international procurement process of goods from abroad;
·         Assist in the identification of new local and international sources of supplies / services;
·         Assist in maintaining the filling system for the procurement function;
·         Assist in preparing Invitations to Bid / Requests for Quotations / Requests for Proposals;
·         Minute Tender Opening and Local Procurement Committee proceedings, prepare Purchase Orders and all documents relevant to procurement;
·         Undertake commercial evaluation of offers and prepare commercial evaluation summaries/tables;
·         Flow up on all correspondence;
·         Assist in sorting out any deliveries by land, sea and air;
·         Assist in the prompt and timely clearance of goods and shipments for any FAO-Somalia projects and ensure safe arrival of these consignments to their final destinations;
·         Perform any other related assignment.

Minimum requirements:
Knowledge and skills:                                                        
Completion of diploma education, including or supplemented by procurement or supply management/logistics or business administration courses. University Degree is an advantage.

Experience:                                                                          
Four years work experience in purchasing, logistics, supply management and/or procurement, or administration/operations including at least one year related to procurement/operations for large programmes or projects.

Languages:                                                                          
Good working knowledge (level C) of English.

Other:
Initiative, good judgment and ability to maintain records and databases, organize office work and draft correspondence. Ability to use PC Computer skills including MS Office Suite and other office technology equipment. Ability and willingness to travel in Somalia.
