Hope for Victoria Children (HOVIC) is an NGO based in Kisumu that works to improve the physical, psychological, health and economic well being of street children and girls living and working in the hidden sector. HOVIC works with children, influencing policy at local and international levels in order to provide an opportunity for OVCs to live and work towards productive, healthy, dignified and meaningful lives.

At its inception, the focus was on addressing the urgent need, namely to provide relief and welfare services to Street Children of all ages in Kisumu City. This was quickly achieved and the programme stepped up to delivering a coordinated targeted intervention ,as well as incorporated a well-structured girls programme

Hope for Victoria Children (HOVIC) is seeking to recruit a Nurse to perform the functions outlined below:


Job Responsibilities
• Create a working budget to support hygiene care for the children dropping in and in the night shelter;
• To provide ongoing health counseling with staff, children’s parents and school agencies;
• To support feeding of all eligible children;
• To ensure that food commodities under health and nutrition are available in good time;
• To provide health education and anticipatory guidance and health counseling to assist children attending rehabilitation;
• To participate in home visits to ascertain the family needs in relation to the children’s health;
• Administer medication to patients;
• Ensuring cleanliness of the clinic to avoid the patients getting cross infections, between staff, patients, and relatives or visitors to the centre;
• Prepare patients for examinations and treatments;
• Ensure all patients information is accurate, that they include detailed reports and records
• Record patients’ medical information and vital signs
• Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and recovery rate
• Ensuring the inventory for the section(s) is up to date and plan when to replenish stock

Academic Qualifications
• Bachelors Degree in Nursing or equivalent degree and a Nursing Council License
• Be a Kenyan Registered Nurse
• Minimum of 1-3 years nursing experience in a clinic setting
• Should have good listening skills
• Good communication skills
• Good hygiene and safety standards
• Have some experience in working with patients that need counseling
