Job Title: Logistics Assistant, Field Support

Accountabilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Logistics Assistant, Field Support, the incumbent will be responsible for the following:-

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
 Support general logistics operations including the management of all logistics assets in order to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of WFP cargo;
 Make regular visits to the stores to ensure conformity with regulations for storage of food and non-food items;
 Provide general daily logistics operational support to the ‘field’ offices and Transhipment Hubs including support to the Nairobi Satellite Office and Nairobi Transhipment Hub and escalate as required
 Provide guidance/responses to queries and/or requests emanating from WFP and Partner offices in the ‘field’
 Prepare and monitor Partner Agreements related to logistics operations
 Provide costs analyses, statistics and reports related to Logistics Field Operations (including relevant Partner operations)
 Prepare basic report drafts, calculations and briefings on field logistics related matters
 Undertake field missions according to operational requirements, e.g. warehouse assessment missions, road assessments etc.
 Act as focal point for contacts from Logistics Field Assistants and Logistics Officers related to Logistics Field Operations
 Ensure Field offices maintain updated records of Logistics Non Food Items (NFI) and that these reports are submitted to the Country Office for subsequent monthly consolidation.
 Maintain a data base for all destruction processes detailing the commodity value and tonnage involved.
 Ensure systematic monitoring of commodity condition and provision of reports and statistics;
 Provide guidance/training as required; Undertake field missions
 Perform all other related duties as required

Qualifications, Experience, Critical Success Factors and Language:
 Successful completion of secondary school education, preferably supplemented by technical qualification or university degree in business administration, statistics, economics, logistics, transport, shipping, law or other field relevant to WFP Logistics
 At least three years of progressively responsible support experience including at least one year in the field of accounting, transport, insurance, statistics, operations or another related field and distribution management.
 Good knowledge and experience in using computer software applications (MS Word, Excel and Access). High sense of initiative and judgment with an ability to perform detailed work, work of a confidential nature and/or to handle a large volume of work possibly under time constraints. Ability to review a variety of complex data, adjust discrepancies and resolve operational problems with substantial independence. Detail oriented with an ability to handle large volume of recurrent confidential work in a systematic manner.
 Ability to deal patiently and tactfully with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
 Ability to train other staff regarding relevant work responsibilities. Ability to work in a team environment and coordinate assignments to achieve common goals.
 Excellent written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
