Diocese of Lodwar in pursuit of its vision ‘ A community of God’s People united by the Holy Spirit, dedicationg our lives to Christian Service to fight poverty and disadvantage’ while working in partnership with DFID Trocaire ASAL Resilience Programme in Loima(ARP – Loima) is seeking to recruit qualified persons to fill the following positions.

The ARP – Loima Project is a DFID Trocaire funded project for three – year intervention focussing on building livelihoods’ resilience among pastoralist and agro-pastoralist communities in Karemunyang and Turkwell in Turkwkell Division and Lokiriama, Lorengippi and Namoruputh in Loima Division (Loima District).

Background to the Role
The position is vital for ensuring that an efficient transport and communication link is maintained for efficient day to day office operations.

Description of Position
To provide reliable and courteous transportation services to the projects with safety a top priority; to provide a communication link between staff and project beneficiaries within their communities; to operate and maintain assigned vehicle(s).
Location: Lodwar with travel throughout Turkana County
Reporting to: Respective Project Coordinator (s)

Duration: 1 year

Major Duties & Responsibilities:
 Drives Diocese of Lodwar (DOL) office vehicles for transport of authorized personnels’ going on field work trips, delivery, collection of mails and documents with a focus on safety and courtesy
 Maintaining defensive driving at all times
 Ensuring that current and valid insurances for the vehicles are maintained
 Performing periodic pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
 Responsible for day to day maintainance of the assigned vehicle and all required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, country maps, office directory, first aid kit and necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle
 Ensuring that periodic scheduled vehicle maintenance is completed and reported to minimize service interruptions
 Preparing accident and incident reports as necessary
 Documenting staff vehicle usage through a comprehensive mileage summary, submitted monthly
 Ensuring safe transportation of staff and cargo according to requests made and daily planning
 Assisting the logistics department in cargo packing and dispatch
 Being available to run other logistics errands as may be assigned by manager

Qualifications, Attributes and Other Requirements Specific to the Role
 Completion of secondary education
 Possession of a clean and valid Kenyan driving license of classes B, C and E
 Possession of a valid Certificate of Good Conduct
 5 years experience (3 years experience in Turkana County or similar environment)
 Ability to read, understand and adhere to the rules and regulations as laid out by the Transport Licensing Board of the republic of Kenya, including road signs
 Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in Turkana, Kiswahili and English
 Ability to establish effective professional relationships with partners & co-workers
 Ability to recognize vehicle maintenance needs and perform minor repairs
 Skilled in reasoning skills to interpret policies and procedures, maps, and route directions
 Ability to administer First Aid
