Accountabilities:
The Electrician (Generator Specialist) will report to the Head of IT unit who is responsible for the electricity supply and maintenance to the office premises or to a delegated staff. S/he will ensure the supply of reliable and clean electrical power to office premises, improve safety of office personnel, conduct the installations and maintenance of generators & electrical network, identify local electrical suppliers, conduct assessment and write recommendations for improving the electrical system. In addition, the incumbent will manage and supervise contractors providing maintenance and servicing of generators. S/he will act as the generator Specialist to whom country office refer to for electrical matters.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in identifying local entities to be outsourced for providing electrical & generator servicing/maintenance
Facilitate the Commissioning and Decommissioning of generators in WFP Offices country wide;
Estimate energy requirement and recommend procurement process of adequate generator sizes and off-grid solar power;
Identify local electrical service providers to whom to outsource repair and maintenance works;
Design and provide electrical drawings and specifications for the installations;
Commission and inspect three phase installations;
Fault find using blueprints;
Improvise temporary measures to ensure power supply to critical equipment in the absence of spare parts;
Manage, install and maintain the electrical services for emergency operations be it installing or supervision of installations;
Carry out works to WFP standard for all electrical services, including wiring and sizing standards and maintenance service;
Carry out installation and maintenance of electrical wiring and distribution systems for all WFP offices and warehouses in WFP operation as required, ensuring a safe and reliable working environment according to WFP electrical standards and Kenya Electrical Regulations;
Coordinate with any electrical required external contracting, servicing or intervention needed for any electrical installation;
Identify and advice the out-sourcing of electrical & generator servicing/maintenance service provision to local companies.
Provide written request for materials and keep detailed reports on storage and usage of these materials;
Plan and oversees work performed as required;
Install and maintain and repair generators;
Update self with acknowledge of relevant electricity regulations appertaining to Kenya;
Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications, Experience, Critical Success Factors and Language:
Completion of secondary school education supplemented by training in relevant field. Formal certification of less than a C1 License with the Kenyan Electrical regulatory board.
A minimum of four years’ work experience with information technology installations and equipment At least 5 years of progressively responsible and proven effective, hand -on electrical or electronics experience. Extensive hands –on experience in deploying, troubleshooting, maintaining and managing generators, domestic and light industrial electrical installation.
Possess official certification as class B electrical, Hands-on experience in deploying, troubleshooting and maintaining single phase and 3 phase generators, diesel or petrol fuelled in the range of 2 KA to 250 KVA.
Knowledge and experience in troubleshooting the mechanical part of generators is a plus. Hands-on experience in deploying, troubleshooting and maintaining UPS and voltage regulator systems ranging from 1 to 60 KVA
Fluency in written and spoken written English and Swahili.
