Job SummaryA study on emerging agribusiness trends in Africa and implications on Tertiary Agricultural Education Networks.

The objective of this consultancy is to conduct a study of the Agribusiness environment using Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia as examples with a view to defining proper implementation, coordination and partnership structures to ensure ANAFE effectively delivers on its mandate. This should be informed by the business models and development actors particularly in the areas of Agroforestry, Forestry and Natural Resources, vis-à-vis ANAFE’s preparedness, capacity, membership, regional/national structures (RAFTs and NAFTs respectively) the Board and the Secretariat.

Roles and responsibilitiesSpecific Objectives/Tasks

• To study the Agribusiness environment focussing on Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia and how ANAFE can optimize on emerging agribusiness opportunities.
• To identify gaps in agribusiness training in ANAFE member universities and colleges in Africa
• To highlight emerging trends in agribusiness and implications for universities and colleges in Africa
• To review ANAFE’s institutional structure in line with its new strategy (2016-2020) and to propose refined structure and organs with clear definitions of roles and responsibilities (Governance, Management, Partners and their interactions that are complementary and value-adding)
• To conduct compensation review of ANAFE in line with other market forces among other African International NGOs.
• To propose a sustainability plan for ANAFE in line with the demands of its new strategy and expected growth.
Skill setThe consultant should:
• Be a firm or a team with recognized experience in the field of Agribusiness, Agroforestry and/or Forestry.
• Have competence and experience in undertaking studies that have led to restructuring of Regional organizations in Africa.
• Have good knowledge and experience in working with the private sector and tertiary agricultural education and research institutions.
• Have at least a Master’s Degree in Rural development, Economics, Agribusiness, Organizational Development, Strategic Management or related field for the Principal Consultant (Lead Consultant) and same qualifications with 7 years’ experience for the other consultants
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in organizational assessment and restructuring
