Programme Development & Quality Intern

TERMS OF REFERENCE FOR A PROGRAMME DEVELOPMENT & QUALITY (PDQ) INTERN

BACKGROUND
Save the Children has been operational in Kenya since the 1950s, providing support to children through developmental and humanitarian relief programmes delivered both directly and through local partners. Current programming focuses on child protection, child rights governance, education, health, HIV/AIDS, livelihoods, nutrition and WASH. In 2012, as part of a global reorganization process, Save the Children combined the programmes of SC UK, SC Canada and SC Finland to create a single operation in Kenya. In February 2014, Save the Children completed a second transition, which saw us join forces with the British INGO, Merlin, and merge their health and nutrition programmes with our own. Save the Children now has an operational presence in Nairobi, Bungoma, Dadaab Refugee Camp, Garissa, Mandera, Turkana and Wajir and works through partners in many other parts of the country. Save the Children employs more than 300 staff and had an operating annual budget in 2014 of approximately US$25 million.

Save the Children’s Programme Development and Quality (PDQ) team leads the development of high quality, innovative programmes that deliver immediate and lasting change for children and provides technical support to monitoring the quality of the implementation of those programmes. The PDQ team is comprised of a dedicated Technical Advisor (TA) for each thematic area (Nutrition, Health/HIV, Education, Child Protection, Child Poverty and Child Rights Governance), in addition to a WASH TA and a Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Manager.
The current intervention programmes are driven by Save the Children Kenya’s strategic plan 2013-2015. As the plan is coming to an end in2015, a process of developing a new country strategic plan (CSP) for 2016-2018 has commenced and will be ongoing throughout 2015.
