Accountant – Property, Inventory & Suppliers Accounts

ILRI seeks to recruit an Accountant to maintain and consolidate fixed assets ledger and register at the end of every month.  This position exists to ensure that the Institutes’ records are reconciled to ascertain annual physical verification of assets and computation of depreciation charged on a monthly basis.

Responsibilities
· Maintenance and reconciliation of ILRI consolidated Fixed Assets ledger and register at the end of every month. Keep records of the Institute’s fixed assets’ by location, costs, depreciation and net book values.  Organising annual physical verification of assets and reconciliation of the results to the fixed assets ledger. Participate in implementation of bar coding system
· Capital budget planning, monitoring and reporting. Includes Recording and reporting Capital spend versus budget every month. Reviews all Capex payment requests/invoices/Purchase orders before payment is processed. Capitalizes all assets upon receipt, installation &/or commissioning. Liaises with procurement and user to Insure Assets on transit & after receipt by ILRI. Coordinates posting of ILRI Addis Ababa Capex (procured via Nairobi procurement office) with the Accountant in charge of current Account, procurement and stores as and when the transaction/supply is effected
· Reconcile and update the retention account monthly.
· Monthly maintenance (GRN and NSIR update) and reconciliation of the inventory ledger. Organising stock takes (quarterly, half and annual) and reconciliation of the results to the inventory ledger and stores bin cards as per policy
· Reconciliation of supplier ledger balances to supplier statements monthly and at the time of payment
· Support the Institute’s tender process by providing financial analysis of bids
· Manage day to day matters of the Institute’s General Insurance. Provision of insurable assets schedule and follow up on claims. Ensure that General Insurance A/c is updated with claims and compensations and reconciled on a monthly basis
· Actively participate in the implementation of an ERP system in the above areas of responsibility
· Train and Act as alternate to the Accountant- payables and Accountant-staff Accounts roles by assuming these roles in rotation or in the absence of the incumbents
· Ensure proper filling of all documentation relating to this function both in physical and soft copy forms
· Undertake any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor
 Requirements:
· Bachelors’ Degree in Business, Economics or Accounting
· Professional accounting qualification- CPA (K), ACCA, or CIMA qualification
· Minimum 5 years’ experience in Assets, Inventory and suppliers ledger management, 2 years of which should be at supervisory level
· Excellent interpersonal, communication and personal organization skills
· Ability to work under tight deadlines
· Ability to support external audit requirements
· Computer skills, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft excel and other Ms Office applications
· Experience with Sun Systems
Terms of Appointment
This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position based at ILRI’s Nairobi campus.  The position is on a 2 year fixed term contract.

Job level and salary
This position is job Grade 2C with a starting salary of KES 116,417. This is exclusive of other benefits provided by ILRI.
