Team Leader, Software Development

 
Established in 1949, SOS Children’s Villages is a private social development international organisation working globally to meet the needs and protect the interests and rights of orphaned and vulnerable children. SOS Children’s Villages International is the umbrella organisation that provides support and guidance to SOS member associations in over 132 countries. SOS Children’s Villages is in the process of recruiting a Team Leader, Software Development, who will be part of a worldwide operating IT Department. He/She will be required to ensure that the organisation’s software development is aligned to global professional standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Software Development Process Management
  • Develop and maintain enterprise content management applications to be implemented organization-wide based on the SharePoint 2010/2013 platform
  • Deliver  high quality, consistent software solutions aligned to global standards
  • Define, improve and roll out software manufacturing processes and technical implementation standards
  • Conduct budgeting and resource planning for the Software Development team
  • Manage outsourcing partners within Africa by:
    • Partner selection and monitoring in line with global standards
    • Coordinating intake of external development components
  • Act as an interface to other business functions
Team Management
  • Coordinate, support and mentor the Software Development team to achieve the organization’s objectives with regard to its document management and virtual collaboration systems.
  • Facilitate the recruitment and selection of Software Developers based on identified need
  • Monitor project progress and compliance of the Software Development team to the software development processes
  • Carry out timely performance management of the Software Development team in line with organization’s policies
REQUIREMENTS:
  • University degree in computer science or comparable education
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in software development, with at least 1 year in a supervisory position
  • Strong working knowledge and experience in:
    • object oriented programming using .NET Framework
    • web development with either HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or ASP.NET
  • SharePoint experience (optional)
    • understanding and creating functional and technical possibilities of the SharePoint platform
    • configuration, development and deployment of SharePoint solutions
    • integration of SharePoint with other platforms and services
  • Experience in working with virtual teams
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to drive, manage, motivate and develop a high performing team
  • Able to keep to schedules and deliver work on time and in high quality
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Flexibility in working hours: happy to work evenings/weekends/travel if necessary.
 
Remuneration: The salary for this position is competitive and negotiable dependant on experience and demonstrable contribution.
