The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the Secretary-General. We support programme implementation of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, conference and information services (www.unon.org). This post is located in the United Nations Office at Nairobi, Support Services Service, Building Management and Transport Unit at the Nairobi duty Station.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direct supervisor the Logistics Assistant and general supervision of the Chief, Buildings, Management and Transportation Unit (BMTU), the duties of the incumbent are as follows:
a)      Drive high ranking UN officials/delegates when required;
·         Meet official personnel at the airport and provide them with transportation service;
·         Deal effectively and tactfully with officials and visitors.
·         Assists Logistics Assistant in coordination and logistics required in the organization of VIP visit. 
b)      Responsible for day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle including cleanliness, check on gas, water battery, brakes, engine oil etc. and inform the logistics assistant of any defects to the vehicle.
c)      Records all trips in the log and daily work-ticket, mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing etc. and ensures the relevant documents such as insurance are valid.
d)      Adheres to the rules and regulations of the Kenya Highway Code and takes prompt action in the event of any accident.
e)      Applies good judgment in the context of assignment given.
f)       Relieve executive drivers when on leave.
g)      Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Completion of secondary school education is required. Must have a valid driver’s license.

Experience:
A minimum of 3 years experience as an official driver and an accident free driving record. Exposure to similar work from a position with the UN or other international organization or Government would be desirable.

Language:
English and French are the two working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of a second official UN Language is an advantage.
