Background:
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations systems designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action.  UNEP’s Division of Environmental Policy Implementation (DEPI) works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and advisory services for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition.  This post is located in UNEP/DEPI at the Nairobi duty station.

Under the overall responsibility of the Head of the UN-REDD Programme Secretariat, and reporting directly to the Communications Officer at the UN-REDD Programme Secretariat in the day-to-day operations and management of the UN-REDD Programme Website, the web developer will ensure timely and efficient achievement of the Programme’s objectives by managing the Programme’s Website and related activities. 

Specific Tasks:
i.          Regular updates of the UN-REDD Programme website, including posting and updating communications materials and creating web pages for new content when needed.
ii           Provide statistics of the UN-REDD Programme website usage.
iii          Layout and distribution of the e-newsletters for the months of August, September, October and November 2012  on the set dates.
iv         Design and layout of new communications materials and update existing communications material.
v          Post relevant UN-REDD Programme announcements on the website and workspace
vi         Resolve technical issues and outages in the UN-REDD Programme
vii         Perform other related duties.

Specific Outputs
i.          Website is updated daily and reflects all update requests, including the uploading of new announcement, documents, and other resources and new webpages.
ii.          Website statistics are provided within a maximum of two working days of the request
iii.         The UN-REDD Programme newsletter (both electronic and printable versions) is successfully produced and distributed in August, September, October and November in accordance with the deadlines set in advance, and newsletter content is reposted throughout the website within two working days of each newsletter dissemination.
iv.        New communication materials are designed and laid out, and existing ones updated, in accordance with the deadlines set in advance.
v.         Workspace announcements are posted on the same day the request is received, and documents are properly uploaded and managed on the workspace.
vi.        Technical issues are responded to immediately when they arise, and resolved as quickly as possible.

·         Professionalism: Knowledge and understanding of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Web Design, abreast with evolving software technology.  Management of information on the Web, layout and distribution of documents on the Web,  Timely dissemination of relevant information/announcements, handle trouble-shooting issues and outages in the office. 
·         Communication: Speaks and writes clearly and effectively; listens to others, correctly interprets messages from others and responds appropriately; asks questions to clarify, and exhibits interest in having two-way communication; tailors language, tone, style and format to match audience; demonstrates openness in sharing information and keeping people informed.

·         Teamwork: Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals; solicits input by genuinely valuing others ' ideas and expertise; is willing to learn from others; places team agenda before personal agenda; supports and acts in accordance with final group decision, even when such decisions may not entirely reflect own position; shares credit for team accomplishments and accepts joint responsibility for team shortcomings.

Qualifications:

Education:
University degree (A first level degree or equivalent) in ICT and Web Design. Diploma in the relevant field with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the first level university degree.    

Experience:  
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in ICT, Web Design and  understanding of the Internet will be a definite advantage. 

Language:     

Depending on professional background, experience and family situation, a competitive compensation and benefits package is offered.
