Cashier


A vacancy has arisen at the British High Commission for a Cashier in the Accounts Unit of the Corporate Services Section. The position is graded at LE IV for which the current salary starts at Kshs. 93,000/- per month before deduction of tax.  Where the successful candidate is not liable to Kenyan tax, the salary will be abated under HM Treasury regulations to Kshs. 71,228/- per month to take account of the tax they would have paid.

Duties and Responsibilities
 The successful candidate will require excellent IT skills (working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word is essential), good communication skills, initiative and attention to detail. He/she will also need to have a flexible approach and to be a good team worker. The section operates a commercially available accounting software package. Previous accounts' office experience would be desirable. Knowledge of the FCO Prism system would be a distinct advantage.
The main duties will include:-

§   Opening and running the cash office for transaction from 0830-1100am,
§   Reconciling the cash book on a daily working basis both USD & Kenya Shillings
§   Preparing the daily pony bag to the bank (cheque deposits and reviewing daily bank statements)
§   Reconciling the supplier statements & checking for VAT or if they have been paid,
§   Filling the cashbook & and bank statements
§   Monitoring on a daily basis the exchange rates (central bank & FCO central rates) and informing the Accountant if the rate is more than 3% variance
§   Responding to telephone, faxes and emails to suppliers & clients
§   Requesting for cash for officers from the bank and arranging for their collection on time,
§   Following up on debt & advances on a weekly basis and provided a weekly report
§   Entering Receipt numbers for Consular, Fraud Centre & Visa - making sure they are up to date
§   Perform Scanning, Loading and Filing of invoices,
§   Assisting newly arrived UK officers in opening bank accounts,
§   Any other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:-

The successful candidate will require good administrative & IT skills (a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word is essential), oral and written communication and customer service skills.  S/he should be highly organised, able to take initiative and to work accurately within deadlines.  Given the nature of work, the candidate will be expected to be a good team player and have previous experience in a similar field.
