Psycho-social Therapist for Children Living with Disabilities and their families

Description
The Psycho-social Counselor will implement all the psycho-social activities and will be directly responsible for case formulation and management as well as offering psycho-social therapy to Children Living with Disabilities and their families.
Also, s/he will train fellow staff members on basic skills of counseling and the technicalities of how to successfully manage different members of the Special Population.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Case formulation and management
·         Formulate clients’ cases, maintain their records and ensure high levels of confidentiality on all the cases.
·         Offer professional psycho-social therapy to all the Children beneficiaries of Paolo’s Home and their families.
·         Gather suitable information about People Living with Disabilities, their welfare, and share it with fellow staff members.
·         Use data gathered on People Living with Disabilities to develop interventions and best practices in Paolo’s Home.
·         Develop and maintain a data base on all the counseling cases in Paolo’s Home.
·         Prepare all counseling reports and present them to the immediate supervisor.
·         Ensure timely implementation of all psycho-social activities.

Training and skills development

·         Prepare topics on different types Physical Disabilities and their accompanying psycho-social interventions.
·         Provide technical guidance on psycho-social interventions to fellow staff members and partners and set benchmarks that meet the Kenya government’s standards.

Community involvement and outreach to the vulnerable population

·         Enhance the existing positive relations with the Kibera community through the local leadership, self-help groups, educationists, parents to sensitize the community at large.
·         Collect primary data on cases of physical disability that will be used to develop interventions that are suitable to the local population.
·         Conduct home and field-visits to assess family situations and to identify new cases of physical disability.

Networking
·         Develop and sustain effective working relations with partners and other participants including the ministry of education, ministry of health, ministry of gender, children and social development, ministry of special populations and NGOs to promote service delivery and information sharing.
·         Identify potential institutions that can handle referrals on psycho-social cases that are not compatible with the services of Paolo’s Home.

Required Qualifications
·         Diploma in counseling psychology
·         Minimum of 3 years experience with a reputable counseling institution; experience of working with members of the special population/vulnerable groups is preferred.
·         Self-motivated, innovative and open to new experiences. 
·         Able to promote teamwork among fellow employees.
·         Competent in written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
