Assistant Director - Finance



The Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI) is a Parastatal established by the Government of Kenya under the Science and Technology Act Cap 250 to carry out Agricultural Research to support the Crop and Livestock Production sectors of the country. Beside this core function, the Institute collaborates closely with the farmers, pastoralists, extension staff and other National and International Development Partners. KARI manages thirty-three (33) Centers inclusive of the subcenters located all over the country with a view of developing and disseminating technology, tailored to meet the needs of different categories of farmers in various Agro-ecological zones and Socio-economic Circumstances. In order to enhance the
provision of services, the Institute would like to fill in the following positions, which are vacant.

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR (FINANCE) - REF: KARI/2/027 One (1) Post The Assistant Director (Finance) will be Chief Financial Advisor to the Deputy Director (F&A) on matters relating to Finance. Reporting to the Deputy Director (Finance and Administration), the position requires the incumbent to be responsible for effective coordination and proper management accounting and also provide leadership to the
Accounts staff.

Duties and responsibilities
• Planning, organizing and coordinating activities in the Division.
• Contributing to the Institutes’ Strategic Plans and Annual Work Plans.
• Reviewing and developing policies and procedures to govern activities in the Institute.
• Formulating and interpreting financial policies for sound accounting principles/practices and control.
• Formulating appropriate financial management and accounting procedures in compliance with International accounting standards and donor financial reporting.
• Formulating all the regulations of the Institute pertaining to financial control and management.
• Ensuring expenditures are within the printed estimates.
• Training, nurturing and mentoring personnel in the Division.
• Preparing performance reports on members of the staff under his supervision.
• Assigning duties and responsibilities to personnel in the Division.

Requirements for Appointment
a) Masters Degree (accounting option) or any other related and equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.
b) A Bachelor of Commerce degree (accounting option) or any other related and equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.
c) A CPA III or its equivalent.
d) Demonstrated outstanding administrative and managerial capability required for responsibility at the grade of Principal Accountant or its equivalent for period of 3 years.
e) Member of a relevant professional body for Accountants.
f) Have thorough understanding of the National goals, policies, objectives and the ability to relate them to proper management of the accounting functions in the Institute.
