The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the Secretary-General.  UNON supports programme implementation of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, conference and information services (www.unon.org). This post is located in the United Nations Office at Nairobi, Human Resources Management Service, Recruitment and Planning Section at the Nairobi duty Station.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general supervision of the Chief, Recruitment and Planning Section and the direct supervision of the Human Resources Officer, the incumbent will be responsible for the following tasks:

Recruitment:
§   Review and edit draft job openings;
§   Evaluate and screen applications of candidates for eligibility;
§   Oversee the maintenance of files and tracking status of job openings;
§   Screen candidates for clerical tests and invite qualified candidates to sit for tests;
§   Assists in the filling of posts for all categories, including initiating and following-up on reference  checks and academic verifications, ensuring the completion of the pre-recruitment formalities, calculating salaries and related benefits and preparing and dispatching offers of appointment and statement of emoluments;
§   Processing of consultancy contracts.

Placement:
§   Prepare agenda, assign cases to the Central Review Body (CRB) members, notify members, write minutes and circulate these to Heads of Offices and CRB members;
§   Follow-up on changes/corrections requested;
§   Attend meetings when required and provide advice and guidance to CRB members when necessary.


Classification:
§   Assist in reviewing and processing requests for classification; Provide advice and answer general queries on classification procedures and processes.

General:
§   Maintain HR related automated systems and applications including automated databases containing HR related statistics and prepare periodic reports;
§   Undertake research on a range of HR related issues and assist in the preparation of notes/reports;
§   Perform other related duties as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Completion of secondary education or equivalent is required. Additional technical training in Human Resources Management is desirable.

Experience:
At least seven years of experience in the area of administration of which 2 to 3 years in human resources management. Experience in an international setting is required.

Languages:
English and French are the two working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of a second official UN language is an advantage.
