The Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI) is the capacity building agency of the Ministry of Education.

The Institute is seeking to recruit suitably qualified Kenyan citizens to fill in the following vacant positions:


Bookshop Assistant JG: H (1 Post) Ref: KEMI/HR/2/14/2013
Gross Salary Kshs. 30,313.00

Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to Head of Finance and Accounts, the Bookshop Assistant’s role will be to:
•             Keep a running inventory of books and other bookstore stock.
•             Plan, organize, and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the bookshop.
•             Maintain textbook stock on the sales floor and overstock.
•             Respond to customer questions and complaints about book returns.
•             Develop and implements procedures for receiving and storing books and other bookstore stock.
•             Process orders, receive and unpack incoming orders, checking against items listed on requisitions, invoices or other order forms.
•             Calculate prices for textbooks.
•             Develop and implement work policies, methods, and procedures for all operations of the bookshop.
•             Investigate, evaluate, and implement improvements, expansion, and termination of products and services available through the bookshop.
•             Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard the assets of the bookshop including cash and inventories.
•             Resolve difficult problems regarding the ordering, receiving, and billing aspects of bookshop operations with publishers and vendors.
•             Interview sales representatives regarding new or improved products, sales promotions, trade practices, and sales trends.
•             Prepare the annual budget of assigned operational areas and reviews and controls expenditures of funds.
•             Organize and supervises annual and periodic inventories.
•             Institute and maintains computer systems supporting sales, inventory, and general administrative functions in a bookshop and acts as the computer systems administrator.
•             Initiate and coordinate the requisitioning and acquisition of textbooks, school supplies, and related materials with the academic department chairpersons, and instructors.
•             Order or supervise the ordering of textbooks, school supplies, giftware, and sundries from publishers and vendors.
•             Determine space allocation for sales area, type of store fixtures, and design of display layouts.
•             Prepare and supervises the preparation of reports and correspondence relating to bookshop and associated operations.
•             Investigate consumer complaints and takes appropriate action.

Minimum Requirements
•             A Diploma in Business Management or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
•             Served in the grade of a Bookshop Assistant or comparable position for a minimum period of three (3) years in institution of higher learning.
•             Demonstrated administrative and managerial capability in organizing bookshop services;
•             Initiative, team player and highly motivated and;
•             Computer literate.
