PATH seeks to recruit a Finance Officer who will be responsible to the Finance Manager for managing the finances of the project in Western Kenya. He is responsible for day to day processing of transactions in compliance with PATH Guidelines and USAID rules and ensures timely reporting of all field activity costs for the field office assigned while maintaining high standards of stewardship and accountability;Check financial transactions for compliance with USAID rules and regulations;notify vendors and staff when payments have been effected and provide remittance advices;assist in collecting relevant budget information, and compilation of the annual budgets

The main responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Ensure completeness and correctness of supporting documents before any payment is made.
  • Keep an updated accounts(advances) through prompt reconciliation  and timely payment of any outstanding advances..
  • Oversee  smooth operations of the office as it relates to prompt payments to suppliers .
  • Process payments by electronic funds transfers and real time gross settlements on electronic banking platforms.
  • Prepare Field Office Financial Report (FOFR) and document reconciliations of all monthly accounts as per set guidelines and timelines, investigate and resolve all discrepancies.
  • Maintain a proper filing system for all accounting vouchers and documents, which includes maintaining well-labeled files and ensuring their security.
  • Track transactions to ensure  completeness and acuracy of entries  keyed in the computer system using the PATH financial package.
  • Monitor bank reconciliations  and  check for any long outstanding cheques and take action to resolve and manage it.
Required Skills

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices and principles required
  • Computer skills and knowledge of accounting systems
  • Analytical and problem solving abilities
  • An eye for detail and be keen on accuracy
  • Good oral and written communication skills required
  • Knowledge of auditing practices and principles preferred
  • Ability to work in a team with minimum supervision
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing working conditions
  • High degree of integrity and discretion in personal conduct
  • Self-motivated, with good judgment and initiative
  • Able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
Required Experience

  • University degree with concentration in Finance or accounting in addition to CPA (K) qualification.
  • Must be registered with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK)
  • Minimum 5 years experience in Not for Profit organizations of which at least 2 years relate to managing of USAID project funds, preparation of bank reconciliations, financial statements, and financial reporting and data analysis, auditing and taxation.
