Introduction
Youth Alive! Kenya seeks a dynamic, strategic leader who is passionate about young people’s issues. The incumbent will apply their proven excellent people and program management skills to work collaboratively with resource partners; governments and donors. The Executive Director will build and lead the Youth Alive! Kenya team responsible for supporting young people in designing, resourcing, managing and growing programs benefitting youth in Africa. Job Purpose
Successful leadership and management of the organisation according to the strategic direction set by the Executive Board.

Summary of responsibilities

  1. Leadership: Participate with the Executive Board in developing strategic plan to guide the organisation towards its vision and review of the same periodically. Act as a professional advisor to the Executive Board on all aspects of the organisation.
  1. Relationship management: Ensure a sound and long term relationship exists between Youth Alive! Kenya and its Donors, the Kenyan community, the Kenya Government and other stakeholders and interest groups.
  1. Operational Planning and management: Oversee the efficient and effective day to day operations of the organisation. Ensure an active and efficient management team exists to support staff and job supervision. Develop and/or review organisational policies and procedures and ensure that they are in accordance with the laws of Kenya.
  1. Programme management: Oversee planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes to ensure that they are in accordance with the Youth Alive! Kenya’s mission and objectives as elaborated in the strategic plan. Maintain and further develop, expand and improve YAK’s programs so that they meet the needs and aspirations of the youth that our organisation serves.
  1. Financial management: Monitoring the budgeting, use and disbursement of funds. Oversee the conduct of financial audits as well develop donor reports. Ensuring that all financial processes meet the legal requirements for the same as well as generally accepted accounting principles
  1. Fundraising: Plan and execute fundraising strategies for the organisation in collaboration with the Executive Board as well as acting as the point of contact for funding agencies.

Qualifications
  • First degree and specific management training
  • Demonstrated interest, participation and training in project management

Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of leadership and management principles
  • Demonstrable knowledge of project management cycle
  • Proven communication and presentation skills, use of information technology
  • Interest and understanding of youth development priorities in Kenya and Africa
  • Experience and results in advocacy work at national level, or regional level as well as experience in transfer of knowledge on advocacy
  • Demonstrable fundraising and networking skills
  • Experience in programming with and for young people
