JOB TITLE: Nutrition Consortium Intern

Duration: 3 Months
TYPE OF CONTRACT: Internship
Level 2: either the role holder will have access to personal data about children and/or young people as part of their work; or they will be working in a ‘regulated’ position (accountant, barrister, solicitor, legal executive); therefore a police check will be required (at ‘standard’ level in the UK or equivalent in other countries).

Background
Strengthening Nutrition Security (SNS)in South Central Somalia) is a four-year DFID funded program
aimed at Strengthening Nutrition Security in South central Somalia through a combination of Life-saving treatment and prevention. It started in November 2013 and is being implemented by a consortium of four NGOs: Save the Children International (Lead agency); Oxfam; Concern Worldwide; and ACF. The consortium members have established a Coordination Management Unit (CMU) that provides technical and backstopping support to the all the Consortium members. Led by the Consortium Manager, the CMU team is based in SCI’s Somali office and comprises of a Researcher/Data analyst, Meal Manager, Grants Manager, IYCF Advisor (From August), Consortium Manager and Grants Manager.

SCOPE OF ROLE: 
Reports to: Under the tutelage of the Consortium Manager, the intern will provide support to the CMU
team in Nairobi

Summary of competencies
This is an exciting opportunity for young dynamic Kenyan nationals seeking to obtain on the job
experience in data management, monitoring, reporting and program support and be part of a motivate
multinational team of experts. It requires a dedicated and highly motivated individual who is willing to
learn at the same time being able to provide much needed support to the CMU team.

KEY RESPONSIBILLITY:
a) Processing of backlog CMAM Data
Verification and data entry of CMAM data of all Consortium members from November 2013 to June 2014 into the Minimum Reporting Package (MRP);
Competency to be gained: Orientation and guidance of data processing into the MRP online software by
the CMU researcher).

b) Preparation of monitoring tools
- Assist in the preparation of monitoring, reporting and accountability templates to be used by all
partners;
- Preparation of guidelines and training materials on the standardized monitoring and supervision tools;
- Assist in the translation of guidance notes and monitoring formats into Somali;
Competency to be gained: Design of monitoring and reporting templates and guidance notes in Microsoft Word and Excel under guidance of MEAL Manager

c) Administrative and other duties
- Provide support in preparations for coordination meetings, workshops, trainings and other similar
events.

DATE
- Ensure that all important program documents (both electronic and hard copy) are available and
accessible to staff and relevant stake holders by putting in place and maintaining a comprehensive filing
system.
- Make the necessary follow up to ensure CMU team have necessary materials and supplies like
stationery to do their work.
- Provide general administrative and clerical support to the Consortium Manager when required;
Competency to be gained: Information management and providing support to an international consortium.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
 University degree in Information Technology or any computer related degree.
 Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to operate as part of a
team in a multi-cultural, values driven work environment
 Knowledge of computer programs and previous data entry experience
 Strong written and verbal communication in Somali language.
