The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the Secretary-General. We support programme implementation of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, conference and information services (www.unon.org). This post is located in the UNON, Support Services Service, Facilities Management and Transportation Section (FMTS) at the Nairobi duty Station.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Working Under the direct supervision of the Logistics Assistant and general supervision of the Deputy Chief, FMTS, the duties of the incumbent are as follows:
a)    Provide high driving standards to the Executive Director (ED) at all times, and to occasionally provide the same service to ED’s visitors and other high ranking UN officials as may be required. 
b)    Responsible for day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle including cleanliness, check on fuel, coolants, battery condition, brakes, engine oil etc; Inform the Logistics Assistant of any defects to the vehicle, and ensure the vehicle is serviced promptly when required.
c)    Record all trips in the work-ticket and fill in all information required to include odometer readings, fuel drawn, oil drawn, etc.
d)    Ensure the relevant vehicle documents such as insurance are valid.
e)    Ensure that the vehicle carries all necessary tools such as wheel spanner, jack and spare-wheel.
f)     Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Completion of secondary school education is required. Must have a valid driver’s license.

Experience:
A minimum of 3 years experience as an official driver and an accident free driving record. Experience in driving variety of makes and model of vehicles required. Exposure to similar work from a position with the UN or other international organization or Government would be desirable.

Language:
English and French are the two working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of a second official UN Language is an advantage.

Other skills
General computer training desirable.
