IT Specialist

The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to hire a consultant to work on a database of tools used or potentially useful in the CGIAR research and development work, to prevent that reinventing the wheel for every project.
ILRI works with partners worldwide to enhance the roles that livestock play in food security and poverty alleviation, principally in Africa and Asia. The outcomes of these research partnerships help people in developing countries keep their farm animals’ alive and productive, increase and sustain their livestock and farm productivity, find profitable markets for their animal products, and reduce the risk of livestock-related diseases. http://www.ilri.org

OBJECTIVE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
Compile the metadata base for each tool. Test and fill the online platform for the tool database.
SCOPE OF WORK
• Clean the database coming from survey monkey
• Fill missing data of the database, by searching on the web or contacting the contact persons.
• Integrate tools from database from other project and propose a metadata structure /cataloguing to be taken up by the new online platform
• Test the new online platform, propose improvements and communicate them to the developers
• Enter the database into the platform
• Create a short user manual to help people to upload their own tools to the database
• Contact other CGIAR centres to inform them about the initiative, understand their potential interest of collaborating to build and share such a database.
• Write up a report about lesson learnt from the search to other CGIAR centers
DELIVERABLES
• Filled the tool platform with the tools form
• A manual on how to upload your own tool on the database
• A report on collected information from other CGIAR centers, including other centers activity and persons consulted
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Understanding of database and cataloguing
• Ability to communicate with software developer
• Good communication and writing skills in English
• Capacity to work in complex and international environment
• Capacity to adjust working time to when the task arise (when the developer can make adjustments)
• Some cataloguing experience
• Basic skills in Python, Jinja 2, html and JavaScript
DURATION OF ASSIGNMENT, DUTY STATION, FEE AND EXPECTED PLACES OF TRAVEL
Duration: 3months
Maximum working days: 30, the consultant will probably be working 2-3 days a week over the 3 months, with at least one weekly meeting at ILRI office.
Duty Station: Nairobi
Expected places of travel: None
Fee: USD 150 – 200 per day
